It is now known in Paris that the

'(l'wo hundred thousand of the number

Monday, and on Tuesday the last hun

which way the battle will go.

West Africa Is
Moving Slowly
LONDON, March 8. —The West coast
of Africa, formerly a land of romance,
tragedy and mystery to be told about
by explorers, is becoming rapidly mod
ernized. A Nigerian newspaper, for
instance, says that Dr. Obasa, a
wealthy native, has at his own expense
built a new road into his cocoa planta
tions so that now a fleet of motor
trucks will take the place of the long
lite of natives carrying the cocoa on
their heads through a jungle trail.
WATERMELON CROP
WILUE SHORT
ATLANTA, March 8. —The water
melon crop from South Georgia and
Florida is going to be a trifle short
this year according to reports from
various sections.
For some unexplained reason, it is
stated, the amount of acreage planted
in watermelons this year has been ma
erially decreased from previous seas
ons.
Farmers who have planted are hop
ing that the expected short crop will
help the price of the delicacy whicn
from- time immemorial has been the
delight of rich and poor alike.
