STARIS NEXT WEEK
The Y. M. C. A. mehmbership cam
paign to be conducted by the Y. M. C.
A. workers next week is to take the
form of a Red and Blue Contest.
There will be seven blue teams com
peting against seven red teams. Each
team will have enlisted five live wires.
That will give a working force of sev
enty.
These seventy workers propose to
secure two hundred new members and
renewals in three days. A few days
ago one Hundred and fifty members
were secured in Thomasville, which is
a much smaller city than Americus.
it is predicted by some of the work
ers who have already consented to
enlist in the campaign that Americus
can put it over in two days.
This membership eflort is being
promoted so that the Americus As
sociation will be self-supporting from
membership fees alone. The work is
in a very healthy state. This is in
dicated by splendid attendance each
day at the building.
The Y. M. C. A. is the one whole
some Association in Americus, and
the business and professional men
will be pleased to hear that a larger
number of young men and boys are
going to be enlisted as members.
Americus can do anything that she
puts her shoulders, to and she
will enthusiastically support this
excellent effort.
Edmund McDonald, of Atlanta, who
will organize and conduct the cam
paign will reach Americus Monday.
Mr. McDonald is not a professional
money raiser, but is employed by the
Young Men’s Christian Associations in
the state of Georgia to assist the local
Associations in reaching the largest
possible number of young men and
boys in each community.

"ITS ILL WIND THAT
BLOWS NO ONE GOOD"
ATLANTA, Ga., March 30.—1 t looks
now as if the Slaton inheritance tax
law will so supplement the state's in
come this year that a heretofore con
templated deficit will not develop.
There will be virtually no Increase
in the state’s general revenues, for
1 reperty has been assessed for taxa
tion at about the same rate as last
year. Expenditures will be several
i undred thousand dollars greater.
But the inheritance tax promises to
be unusually fruitful. Several mil
lion dollar estates have come within
that tax within the last few months.
The largest is that of Col. Janies M.
Smith, which will probably contrib
ute as much as $200,000 to the state
treasury. The latest is that of George
W. Parrott, of Atlanta. The tax ou
that will amount te $40,000 or $50,-
000.
All told the inheritance tax law may
bring a half million dollars more than
the total rental on the state railroal
into the state treasury his year.
The inheriance tax was one of
the chief reforms accompished by the
administration of Governor John M.
Slaton.

TELLS HOW VINOL RESTORED
STRENGTH AND VITALITY
Americus people will realize that we
could not publish such letters as the
L following if they were not genuine and
truthful statements of facts. The Rev.
’ Mr. Hughes, Holly Springs, Ark., says:
"I am a Methodist minister and suf
fered from broken-down nerves, loss of
appetite and sleeplessness. I was
weak, my circulation was very poor,
and I was not able to do my duty in
my parish as I felt I should. I had
tried various remedies, but did not
stem to get any better. Through Mr.
Gatlin', of Bearden, Ark., I learned of
Vinol, and it built me up. I regained
i my appetite, can sleep better and do
, more work.”
i There is no secret about Vinol, it
i derives its power to build up the over
i worked, brokendown, nervous system
i from the medicinal extractives of
, fresh cod livers without oil, combined
• with tonic iron and beef peptone.
Anyone ini Americus who wishes to
try Vinol can do so with the under
