ATHENS, April 25.—Bulgarian
losses during the war are estimated by
Bulgarian newspapers received here

and 50.000 wounded. There is much
distress in Bulgaria as a result of that
country’s participation in the war.
Throw Your
Sox’s Away
ATLANTA, Ga., April 25.—1 f your
socks wear out too fast, throw them
away and buy socks made of Georgia
asbestos. If your roof catches fire and
threatens a conflagration, or if it leaks
and ruins your plaster, tear it off and
put on a roof rade of Georgia asbestos
shingles.
For socks and shingles and many
other useful things, there is nothing
better than the asbestos mined in
Georgia, which is next to Canada, the
leading asbestos producer in the world.
Dr. S. W. McCallie, state geologist of
Georgia, has brought the attention of
a number of large manufacturers to
the enormous asbestos deposits in this
state, and development of mining and
manufacturing will shortly be com
menced on a large scale.

Gin COUNCIL TO
HAVE IMPORTANT
MEET TUESDAY
The regular semi-monthly meeting
of the mayor and city council will be
held Tuesday night at 7:30 o’clock
ar. the city hall.
A feature of interest will be the fire
insurance question which has been
prominent in the affairs of the city
during the past week. The figures and
rates of other cities have been com
piied and placed at the disposal of
the city fathers.
The Southeastern Underwriters’ as
sociation have called off their rate
raising for the present, possibly with
the expectancy that the city council
will reduce the special license tax on
the companies.
The bond issue of $30,000 for street
improvements, voted by the people on
March 15th, have been validated and
will be placed on the market as soon
as notice can be given when bids wiil
be received and opened.
Chairman N. M. Dudley, of the fi
nance committee, states that the city
officials are receiving many flattering
offers for the bonds, but according to
a decision of the council, they will be
sold to the highest bidder. The city
council reserves the right to reject all
bids made.
Other matters of importance will oc
cupy the attention of the city council
at their regular meeting tonight.

Solicitor Hugh M. Dorsey the fam
our prosecutor of Leo M. Frank, had
planned to introduce in evidence the
record of the trial of Innes and his wife
in San Antonio, where they were ac
cused of murdering Beatrice Nelms
and Eloist Nelms Dennis and cutting
up their bodies in a sausage grinder
and de_.ioying the .cmains with quick
lime. But the attorneys ar pointed by
the Fulton Superior court to defenr
the Innes’—Judge Jno. S. Candler and
Judge J. K. Hines—will make a fight
to prevent the introduction of this
evidence on the ground that it is en
tiiely irrelevant to the charges of lar
ceny after trust and will pin Sol
icitor Dorsey down to a trial of the in
dictment and nothing more.
MRS. GODBEE WILL
SOON REAR FUTURE
ATLANTA, Ga., April 2;.—Mrs. Ed
ra Godbee, in a few days, may know
whether she is to be a free woman or
spend the remainder of her days in the
state penitentiary for the murder of
her husband. The state prison com
mission is expected to reply to her
plea for pardon before the first of the
month.
Mrs. Godbee is now a prisoner at
the Georgia state penitentiary in Mel
ledgeville, serving a life sentence for
the killing of her divorced husband,
Judge Walter Godbee, at Millen, Ga.,
in the early fall of 1913.
While Mrs. Godbee, according to re
ports, has been suffering with ner
vous breakdowns during the last sev
eral weeks, she appears consoled over
the prospects of securing her free
dom.
“I hope to be free soon,” said
Mrs. Godbee’ .‘ln view of the fact that
practically every grand juror serving
on the jury at the time I was indicted,
and the traverse jurors who convicted
me, the solicitor general who prose
cuted me, every city official in the
tewn of Millen where I lived, and ev
ery member of all the woman’s or
ganizations there and hundreds of peo
ple throughout the section of the state
where I lived, have signed the appli
cation which was presented to the
prison commission for my pardon, and
there being practically no opposition
to my release, I feel absolutely opti
mistic over my prospects for libera
tion.
According to the physicians, Mrs.
Godbee will be forced to undergo a
severe intestinal operation very soon
She hopes to be placed in a hospital
where she can obtain the necessary
medical attention. She expressed her
self as being doubtful of ever obtain
ing complete restoration to health.
Greenwood Shows Coming
Next Monday the Greenwood shows,
carrrying exclusive Cbero-Col* ad
vertising, win erect their mammoth
rein-proof tented theatre on the base
ball park and open for a full week of
musical comedy. This company comes
here strongly endorsed by the press
and public of Columbus, where they
are at present playing a week’s en
gagement to enormous attendance.
Cliff Watson and a bevy of pretty girls
are receiving a full quota of praise.
This feature is but an adjunct of the
Greenwood shows which are said to
embrace many startling surprises. The
trivial price of ten cents for general
admission is made possible only by
the enormous capacity of the pavilion
and a heavy advertising contract with
the Chero-Cola Company.
