♦ GOOB-BYE SWEETHEART *
(June, 1916.)
Bick with your shields, 0 khaki lads
0 laddies urave and true;
You’ll find the "girls you left behind”
Still waiting there for you.
Upon the far-flung cactus plain
The Stars and Stripes unbind,
And let the Eagle of the North
Scream down the Mexic wind.
■Wake up the echoes of the south
With “Georgia’s fair naipe;”
She puts into your strong. young
hands j
The record of her fame?
I
And sends you forth to keep un
dimmed |
Amid the clouds of war
Her symbol on your banner bright—
Her white and steadfast staA
We’ll watch for you beside the trails,
Where Glory keeps her score;
O khaki lads, our hearts would break
If you came back no more!
Would break except we’d know the
few
Left ’neath the Aztec skies
Had shown the whole, wide martial
woi Id
The way a hero dies.
But you’ll come back, O khaki lads.
And bring your shining shields,
And tell the girls how ’twas you
fought i
And won on glory’s fields!

( RANSTON WILLI AMS HOST
AT DINNER-DANCE AT CLUB.
On Friday evening at the Chester
' field club, Cranston Williams was host
to fourteen friends, the occasion be
ing a dinner-dance, in compliment to
Miss Elizabeth McMaster, the charm
ing and popular house guest of Miss
Mattie Sue Taylor. The pretty bunga
low type club rooms were profusely
decorated, the inviting scene being em
bellished by potted ferns and plants
placed attractively within the spac
ious room used for entertaining. The
color scheme followed the patriotic
fervor of the hour, red, white and blue
predominating in the decorations.
Place cards were dispensed with,
being replaced by a miniature “T.-F.
Extraordinary.” These novel cards
gave an air of distinction to the party,
at once indicating the journalistic pro
fession of the genial host, while the
pleasantries printed thereon create!
favorable comment among those at
tending. These place-markers were
tied with pretty bows and red, white
and blue ribbons, the tiny silken
cords blending in perfect harmony
with the room decorations. A vic
trola furnished appropriate music
out the evening.
Myriads of daisies were placed
upon the long table, where delicious
viands, prepared by Jim, the celebrated
Chesterfield club chef, satisfied keen
appetites, and smart conversation en
livened the dining. The menu was
Grape Juice Cocktail
Celery Heart Stuffed Olives
Salted Peanuts.
Broiled Chicken on Toast.
Asparagus Tips with Cream Dressing
Potato Chips Beaten Biscuit
Pet Poise en Case
Caromel Ice Cream Angel Food Cake
There w'ere no after-dinner talks,
the guests preferring dancing, which
fascinating diversion was indulged un
til the midnight hour.
Present were Miss Elizabeth Mc-
Master, of Waynesboro, honoree of
the occasion, and her hostess, Miss
Taylor, Miss Louise Marshall, Miss
