MINISTRY OF LOANS
MAY BE ADDED FOB
BRITISH _CABINETS
LONDON, Aug. 12. —To relieve the
Chancellor of the Exchecquer of some
of the responsibility for the issue of
excequer bonds, war loans, etc., still
another office is practically certain to
be added to the Cabinet, in the form of
the Ministry of Loans, according to a
political writer in the Weekly Dis
patch.
When McKinnon Wood takes over
the position of Financial Secretary to
the Treasury, after resigning the
Scotch secretaryship it will be found
that he will take over the duties of
the new office, the writer says.
The Ministry of Loans will be the
third new cabinet office to have been
created during the war, the other two
being the Ministry of Munitions and
the Ministry of Blockade. In the ord
inary course, the addition would mean
a cabinet of 24, but in future it is re
garded as certain that the Chancellor
ship of the Duchy of Lancaster will be
filled by a Minister holding a second
office ,thus keeping the number down to
23.
McKinnon Wood has always held
that thrift should be the concern of
the state. His capacity for the new
office rests on extensive business ex
perience, he having carried on the
family business as a merchant suc
cessfully. His aptitude was reflected
in his receflt work as member
of the Finance Committee of the Lon
don County Council. His business
knowledge is widely recognized, and he

OH! MV BACK
THE EXPBESSION OF MANY A KID.
NEY SUFFEBED IN AMERICUS
A stubborn backache is cause to sus
pect kidney trouble. When the kid
neys are inflamed and swollen, stoop
ing brings a sharp twinge in the small
of the back, that almost takes the
breath away. Doan’s Kidney Pills re
vive sluggish kidneys—relieve aching
backs. Here’s Americus proof: ,
W. R. Ryals, engineer, Seaboard Air
Line railroad, 221 Brannan Ave.,
Americus, says: “At times I have a
dull, dragging ache across my back,
which causes my limbs to feel numb.
I have this trouble principally when
on my feet for any length of time.
Sometimes I have backache, caused by
the strain of being in a cramped posi
tiin so long or the jarring and jolting
of the engine. I need only to take a
few Doan’s Kidney Pills to get prompt
relief. I often carry them while at
work, and always keep them in my
home.”
Price 50c at all dealers. Don’t sim

Doan’s Kidney Pills—the same that Mr.
Ryals had. Foster-Milbv-'i Co., Props.,
Bugalo, N. Y.
has contributed papers on commercial
subjects to various publications. He
would make every effort to induce the
small investor to take up war loan
and exchequer bond issues. He dis
played especial interest in the Scotch
War Loan Committee’s work, and some
time ago hinted that fresh taxation
would follow any slackening in the
taking up of war issues.
