Frank Harrold, Jr., of Americus, is
winner of the state essay medal,
given by the U. D. C. in Georgia. This
award was announced by Miss Mary

convention adjourned to attend a

The Sixth District Rebekahs are in
session here today, with delegates and
visitors from ail over the district in
attendance. The meetings are being
held in the Odd Fellows Hall, and the
visitors are enjoying the occasion as
well as attending to important busi
ness aaffirs.
Tonight there will be an open ses
sion of the convention, at which time
addresses of interest alike to the pub
lic and members of the order will be
delivered by local and visiting speak
ers. The convention here, which has
been anticipated with unusual pleasure
by Odd Fellows and Rebekahs through
out the district, is being favored with
unusually pleasant weather and every
effort is being put forth-by local com
mittees in charge to make the stay of
the visitors in Americus most inter
esting.
SAVANNAH’S NEW LIBRARY
SOON TO BE OPEN TO PUBLIC
SAVANNAH, Ga., Oct. 20.—When Sa
vannah’s new library, largely the gift
of Andrew Carnegie, is opened on the
latter part of this month the occas
ion is to be made one of much interest.
It has been decided to have a formal
opening of the library to which the •
public shall be invited. The new
building, -which is of white marble,
stands on the corner of Bull street
and Thirty-sixth, and is a. very beauti
ful structure. When it is openerr,
Mayor Pierpont and others interested
will be on hand to deliver short ad
dresses and the occasion is sure to at
trac a very large crowd. The library
is well stocked and is considered one
if the best equipped in the state.

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Oct. 20.—AVill
Turner, convicted of killing F. C. Av,-
' cry, an aged horseman, here last fall,
was hanged in the county jail today.
- Turner was arrested in Washington, D.
C„ while trying to sell Avery’s horses.
