Cost of Building, $21,000.00. Amount

(Signed.) VIRGINIA GUNN,
Librarian.
Americus, Ga. ■
August 12th, 1915.
(The reason why our salaries aud'
wages were so low in 1911 was be-!
cause the Assistant Librarian served'
as an apprentice without pay.—C. W.) !
As a result of the above statement,
we were immediately notified that the
same was unsatisfactory, in that our (
total income had in only orte-instance
attained the amount guaranteed, by the
city. Since that time cofisiderable
correspondence has passed between
the Carnegie Library Corporation, the
Library Commission of Georgia and
myself, with the final result that all
Library Extension work in the state
has been stopped by the Carnegie Cor
poration, pending a faithful compli
ance upon the part of the City of
Americus with its contract with the
Carnegie Corporation. The City of Ma
con has applied for a $50,000 Libra
ry building, Cordele for a $10,000.00
addition to its present building; six!
other smaller cities have applied for |
buildings, but none of them have as j
yet been granted. Respectfully yours, I
etc. CRAWFORD WHEATLEY,
President, Carnegie Library Associa
tion.
PIERPONT, OF SAVANNAH,
URGED AS NEXT GOVERNOR
SAVANNAH, Ga., Nov. 18.—That any i
man with the determination and exec- i
utive ability displayed by Mayor W. J.
Pierpont in the conduct of the affairs
of Savannah would be excellent ma
terial for governor, in the opinion of
Thomas B. Felder, prohibition leader;
of Atlanta, who, with C. Clayton Cal-'
laway, of Atlanta, passed through Sa
vannah yesterday, en route to New
York. Mr. Felder states that there :s
a strong sentiment throughout the
state in favor of Mr. Pierpont making
the race.
