AGRICULTURAL ALICE. ♦
When Alice in her apron
And big broad hat of straw,
Strolls into her back yard garden
She’s cute as you ever saw.
She has a flowered watering pot,
A dainty little rake,
In matters agricultural
Much interest she doth take.
She waters a potato plant—
And how she doth enthuse—
What matter that she gets the most
Os it upon her shoes.
A daintier little gardener
You’d scarcely ever find,
And vegetables are glad to grow
When her they have in mind.
She reads the books and papers and
The magazines galore.
And makes a dozen blades of grass
Grow where one grew before.
Oh. Agricultural Alice is
Quite proud to do her “bit”
And best of all she looks so sweet
While she is doing it. »

JOLLY PARTY STAYING
AT “CAMP OAKVIEW.”
’ Camp Oakview,” situated three
miles out on the Plains road, will be
the scene of much gayety during the
ensuing week. Its close proximity ot

Now that prices are high it is more
than ever important that you give careful consider
ation to the roof you are going to put on. You
can save real money and get a better roof by using
Certain-teed
Roofing
Thru quality and sheer merit as a roofing materia!
CERTAIN-TEED is now being used as the prefer
able type of roofing for sky-scrapers, factories,
hotels, stores, warehouses, garages, farm buildings
etc., where durability is necessary.
It is economical to buy, inexpensive to lay and costs
practically nothing to maintain. It is weather-tight,
light weight, clean, sanitary and fire-retardant. It
is guaranteed for 5, 10 or 15 years, according to
thickness (1, 2 or 3 ply).
There are many roll roofings on the market, but only one
CERTAIN-TEED. It pays to get the best. It costs no more
to lay a CERTAIN-TEED roof than it does to lay a poor
roof, but there is a vast difference in the wear. You can’t tell
the quality of a roofing by looks or feel. Your only safety is the
label. Be sure that it is CERTAIN-TEED—then you are
certain of quality and guaranteed satisfaction.
Certain-teed Slate-Surfaced Asphalt Shingles
are supplanting wood and slate shingles for residences. They cost less,
are just as good looking, wear better, won’t fall off, buckle or split. They
arc fire-retardant, and do not have to be painted or stained.
Certain-teed Paints and Varnishes
The name CERTAIN-TEED on a r
KX can of paint or varnish is the same .
YmLJEBbI guarantee of quality and satisfaction it
is on a roll of roofing or a bundle of
shingles. Made for all uses and in all
' colors.

JULES VERNE’S WONDERFUL
DRAMA TO BE SEEN HERE SOON ;
For the first time in history a drama
has been performed under the sea with
the floor of the ocean as a stage, and
this drama has been filmed in pictures
that necessarily had to be taken under
the waves. Jules Verne’s wonderful
ly imaginative story, "Twenty Thous
and Leagues Under the Sea,” with all
its thrilling characters has been dram
atized and is to be presented in photo
play form at the Opera House begin
ning Friday, August 17th.
There comes a change in movie
thrills. Heretofore leaps for life and
jungle dangers have been the favorite
thrills of producers. But, with this
new submarine masterpiece hand-to
hand battles with a devil fish and hair
breadth escapes from death-dealing
sharks usurp the places formerly held
by the dangerous feats of precipice and
pungle.
But thrills are not the only
tion of the picture Marvelous scien
tific disclosures are made by the cam
era, and deep sea wonders are dis
played in startling and magnificent
beauty. And in seeing the picture one
feels the power and fascination of
that imaginative and creative genius
that distinguished Jules Verne from
bis contemporaries and marked him as
a man apart.
In filming this fascinating adventure
story the Universal Film Company has
required the services of two thousand
persons in the nine hundred scenes.
that are shown. The picture opens at
4 o'clock Friday afternoon.

j CITIZENS WARNED MIT TO
WEAR REGULAR ARMY KHAKI
ATLANTA, Ga., August 14. —Don't
be tco free with the way you wear
the khaki of the United States army
| because you may get yourself into ser
ious trouble. There is khaki of more
I colors than brown, and you had bet-
I ter choose one of these colors, if you
want to wear khaki as a uniform for
hunting of fishing or general knock
about purposes.
The war department has just issued
orders forbidding the use of the brown
army khaki by civilians, the reason be
ing that the government must protect
the uniform of its soldiers. The only
exceptions to the rule are the Boy
Scouts and recently discharged sold
| iers and naval militiamen.
