DELL-WEBB.
Telegrams were received in Amer
icus yesterday announcing the mar
riage of Miss Callie Bell and Mr. Gro-1
ver C. Webb, which took place in For
syth, where the bride was visiting rel-!
atives.
The marriage was in the nature of
a surprise to the many friends of the
couple here, though the family had
been apprised of it a short while be
fore the wedding. Th ? ceremony was
performed by the Rev. R. L. Bivins,
formerly of Americus, but now of For
syth, and Mr. and Mrs. Webb left im
mediately for points in Florida.
Mrs. Webb, as Miss Callie Bell, has
been one of Americus’ most charming
ycung women, and it is a source of
congratulation among her many
friends that her marriage will not tape
her away from Americus. Mr. Webb is
a promin mt lawyer and business man
of this city, and a man of splendid
character. Mr. and Mrs. Webb will
return from thetr wedding trip in
about ten days and will be at home to
their friends with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff
■Williams, on College street.

ISBUI SPY SClflEi
RIO GRANDE DO SUL, Brazil, Jan. !
19.—Brazil, now that it has entered
the war, is having its spy scare and
It has become more general even than
in some of the other belligerent coun
tries. It is only necessary for a per
son to be a foreigner and astranger
in any Brazilian town to become the
object of suspicious regard by the peo
ple and even of police surveillance.
Orders have gone out from Rio de
Janerio for the arrest of large num-'
bers of Germans, many of whom ap- '
pear to be innocent business men. al- !
though there is no doubt but that the
German espionage is well organized
in Southern Brazil. Spies are report- !
ed to have been especially active in |
the state of San Paulo and the gov
ermnent has taken rigid measures for
watching all suspects there.
As soon as the government began
