The Leslie correspondent is very
sorry that “Remus” of Iluntingtor
feels that the Leslie correspondent
doesn’t give any space to them. We
shall be looking for that next letter
taking up Leslie as be saw it six
years ago, and as he sees it today, dis
cussing her progress, the superior po
sition she occupies, and give reasons
why she is not measuring up to his
expectation. Just suppose the Leslie
correspondent was to tell a little of
Huntington as she knew it eighteen
years ago, and of the progress it has
made up to now.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kidd, of near
Concord, have been the guests of
relatives in Leslie for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Green had as
their guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs.
George R®id Doster, of Rochelle.
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bowen spent Sun
day in Americus with . Mr. and Mrs.
James Brown.
Gus Johnson was a visitor in town
Saturday afternoon from Huntington.
Mrs. J. T. Bolton left Tuesday for
Fitzgerald, where she will spend sev
eral days with her sister, Mrs. Sam
Dixon.
Mrs. J. J. Sloan left Saturday for
Felham, where she was called by the
serious illness of her mother, Mrs.
Clements.
Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Ranew and fam
ily spent Sunday in Americus with
Mr. and Mrs. Sim Belcher.
Mrs. .A. B. Perry, of Parker's, vis
ited relatives here Tuesday.
A very important business session
of the Leslie Red Cross chapter will
be held at the lodge hall Friday even
ing at 7 o’clock. We will be glad to
have as many present as can come.
Plans are being made by a com
mittee apointed by the Leslie Baptist
church to make some changes and do
general repair work on their build
ing, after which the structure will be
painted.
EHis Park Green went Sunday to
Rochelle, where he is visiting his
sister, Mrs. Reid Doster.
Mrs. J. J. Wilson spent Tuesday in
Leslie with her sister, Mrs. F. A.
Wilson.
Miss Annie Claire Ranew spent Fri
day night at Plains with her sister,
Mrs. C. S. Durden, returning to Les
lie Saturday.

preached a most interesting sermon at
St. John’s Lutheran church Sunday
morning.

Feagan spent the week-end in Ameri

A. F. Pennington spent Saturday In
Oglethorpe.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Coker carried
their little daughter, Gladys, to Ameri
cus Thursday afternoon for medical
treatment.
S. G. Joiner is quite ill at this time,
but all in this community hope he
will recover speedily.

Miss Ethel Wells, of Americus, Miss
Lillie Belle Pennington, Wicker, Dallas
and Scrap Pennington, of Sumter
county, attended hervices at St. John’s
Lutheran church Sunday morning.
Mrs. R. H. Stubbs was the guest of
her sister, Mrs. P. J. Holloway, Sun
day.
W. J. Pennington and A. F. Pen
nington made a business trip to Monte
zuma Monday.
Mr. J. H. Harris is on the sick list
this week.
Rev. E. F. K. Roof spent Sunday
with J. D. M. Wicker and family.
Miss Beulah Pennington, of Ander
sonville, was the week-end guest of
her father, W. J. Pennington.

GERMAN ALIENS
BEINGJNTERNED
NEW YORK, Jan. 24.—Under an
armed military guard thirty-six Ger
mans, considered by federal authori
ties to be among the most dangerous
enemy aliens in the Unite States, were
taken from this c’ty yesterday to Fort
Oglethorpe, Ga., for internment for the
duration of hte war.
Hugo Scmidt, former head of a
branch of the Deutsche Bank of Ber
lin in this city, was in the party. He
was arrested here by secret service
agents on Friday night by orders of
the Department of Justice at Washing
ton Frederick Stallforth, a German
banker of No. 5 Liberty street, was
taken into custody about the same
time.
The men were taken from Ellis Is
land yesterday to the Pennsylvania
Station where a special car was
boarded, with Lieut. Grant Burns of
the 22d Infantry in charge. Most of
the Germans in custody are well
known, not only in this city, but have
gained a country-wide reputation
from the activities in German pro
paganda since 1914. Twenty-one of
them have" resided In New York or
nearby, while others came from places
outside of the state.
“Million Dollar Doll” Coming.
The plot of “The Million Dollar
Doll," which will be presented at the
Opera House on Friday, Jan. 25th, is a
novel one and well suited to musical
comedy. The guardian of a very beau
tiful young lady has invested her
money in a wonderful smoke consumer
which does not prove a great success,
and they are about to lose all their
money when they hit upon the plan of
taking the young lady to the Panama
exposition and have her compete for
a ten thousand dollar prize which is
to be awarded to the most beautiful
“Doll” in the world. They go to Cali
fornia byway of the Panama canal,
which gives opportunity for the great
“boat scene” which has been pro
nounc the most elaborate ship ’scene
ever presented before the public. The
last act of the play takes place on the
famous “Joy Zone’ at the exposition
where Dolly wins the prize and is
awarded the ten thousand dollars.

At a meeting of all the retail merchants of Ameri
cus the following delivery schedule was agreed
upon and unanimously adopted:
All orders sent in by 10:30 a. m. will be
delivered in time for dinner. After 10:30
a. m. no orders will be delivered until af
ter 2p. m. All orders sent in between
10:30 a. m. and 4 p. m. will be delivered
in the afternoon in time for supper, but no
orders received after 4 o’clock will be de
livered until the following morning, ex-
- cept on Saturday, when orders will be re
ceived as late as 7 p. m. and delivered that
night.
This schedule will go into effect Monday,
January 21st.
Every retail grocer and meat market in Americus
has entered into this agreement, and we hope that
our customers will co-operate with us and not ask
any of them at an-.’ time to violate their agree
ment and break this schedule.
