Mrs. W. H. Bowers entertained yes
terday afternoon at a most enjoyable
musicale, honoring her guest, Mrs.
James Strong, of New York. Violets
and hyacinths formed the lovely dec
orations in the drawing room and an

ternoon by Miss Mary Bowers and Miss

THRIFT STAMP CONTEST.
About two months ago Mr. D. C.
Pickett, of Dawson, offered a prize of
ten dollars in thrift stamps to the
pupil of Furlow school selling the
most stamps in a period of two months.
The contest has closed and the prize
went to James Furlow, who sold
stamps to th e amount of $617.50. Ed
win Gammage and James Collins each
sold over two hundred dollars’ worth
ai d Josephine Simmons and Edmund
Mauk each sold over a hundred dol

BIRTHDAY PARTY.
Miss Eta May Broks celebrated her
eleventh birthday yesterday afternoon
at her home on Lee street, with a
lovely party at which fourteen of her
friends were entertained. Games were
enjoyed and delicious refreshments
were served. Those present were:

Capt. James Fort, a popular former
resident of Americus, is in the city
visiting friends and relatives. Capt.
Fort is stationed at Camp Gordon and

Well Known Negress Dead.
Carrie Collins, a well known negro
woman, died here Thursday morning
at her residence in the city. She was
well liked among the white families
she worked for, and aws a cook and
servant for many years, and her
death is regretted among them all.

Oglethorpe Sunday morning.
