ATLANTA, Ga„ March B.—The
stories of poor equipment and neglect
of soldie. s in training camps are
false, declares Benjamin A. Cheney,
a broker of San Juan, Porto Rico,
who is here to visit his son at Camp
Gordon, and who gives a highly in
teresting account of the great pa
triotic enthusiasm which prevails
throughout Porto Rico.
The women are knitting for the sol
diesr and making surgical dressings
for the Red Cross. The children are
buying Thrift Stamps and the men
are buying Liberty Bonds. Porto
Rico sent 150 young men to the tTrst
officers’ training camp, and a can
tonment is now being built to train
12,000 young Porto Ricans for the na
tinal army.
Moreover, Mr. Cheney declares that
the rules and regulations of the Food-
Administration are being scrupulous
ly observed throughout the Island.
"They would no more think of eat
ing wheat on wheatless days than they
v ould think of insulting the Stars and
Stripes,” he declares.
