{ORGANIZED.
Yesterday afternoon at the Carne
gie Library a Woman’s Council of Na
tional Defense was formed, Mrs. Frank
Harrold being appointed temporary
chairman by Mrs. S. M. Inman, of At
lanta, of the Georgia division.
The purpose of the organization is
: a part of the government’s plan to
create throughout the United States a
uniform medium through which all
women’s organizations may report,
their defense work and receive sug
gestions from the Council of National
Defense for war emergency action.
The heads of all clubs and societies
were invited to the meeting and ev
ery member of women’s organizations
in Americus will be urged to be at the
next meeting, to take part in the
work.
The Unit Board is composed of the
heads of the local organizations. The
following officers were elected: Chair
man, Mrs. Frank Harrold; vice-chair
man, Mrs. H. B. Allen; corresponding
secretary, Mrs. H. B. Mashburn;
treasurer, Mts. C. A. Culpepper; re
cording secretary, Mrs. S. H. McKee.
The following local organizations

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN
AGAINST “SHELL SHOCK”
WASHINGTON, D. C., March 21.
“Shell shock,” the nervous ailment
thta has made hundreds of soldiers in
valids during the war can be elim
inated only if the army aids in the
fight against it. A general order has
been issued by the war department,

ing shell shock.
The order say s that it has been ob
served in Europe that soldiers who
have become victims of shell shock
had, for several days before their col
lapse, given "evidence that they were
fast approaching the limit of their
nervous endurance.”

“Over There” Club.
While the Roberta United Shows
were playing Americus last week, the
ladies of the show organized an “Over
there” club. The purpose of the club
is to assist the boys over there by se
curing smokes and literature for the
boys at the front. The club opened
with fourteen charter members, and it
