TUESDAY—Miss Annie Lou Perkins
will entertain in the morning for Miss *
Mary Elza Sheppard, a bride-elect of
April.
The Tuesday Club will be entertain
ed some time during the week by Mrs.
J. A. Hixon.
WEDNESDAY—The hostess for the
Young Matrons’ Bridge Club will be
announced later.
THURSDAY —The Woman’s Literary
Club will meet with Miss Clara Led
better, at Miss Taylor’s residence on
Church street.
FRIDAY—The Red Cross Bridge
Club will not meet this week, but will
be postponed till Friday of next week.
Miss Leda! Merritt will entertain for
Miss Mary Elza Sheppard in the as -
ternoon.
SATURDAY—The N. N. Club and |
Girl Scouts Clubs will meet, the
hostesses to be announced later.
Miss Elizabeth Brown will entertain
in the afternoon for Miss Mary Elza
Sheppard.

PATRIOTIC RALLY.
The Council of Defense of Sumter
county desires to stress the aippeal to
every woman in Americus, whether a
member of clubs or not, to attend the
rally at First Methodist, church to
morrow (Tuesday) afternoon at three
c’clock. Dr. z\shby Jones, the speaker
of the occasion, is an orator of na
tional repute, and aside from the mas
sage he brings, his address will be a
rare treat.

ADDRESS OF
DIRECTOR BRYAN.
On Friday, March the 29th, Robert
Bryan, director of pledge card cam
paign, will deliver an adress to the
housewives of this city and county, at
the Carnegie Library. It i s hoped that
Director Bryan may be greeted by a
large audience, as his work is second
to none in importance, and should be
given the utmost consideration by ev
ery woman who desires to do her (part
in winning the war.
GEORGIA S. S. CON VENTION
MEETS IN AUGUSTA. May 7TH
ATLANTA, Ga., March 25. —The
Georgia Sunday School association will
hold its annual meeting in Augusta
May 7,8, 9. This convention for sev-.
eral years has been one of the largest'
religious gatherings in the state. The
attendance varies from 1,000 to 2,000
persons.
Leading Sunday school workers have
been secured to address the meetings.
Among them are W. C. Pearce, Chica
go, 111., field superintendent Interna
t’onal Sunday School association, and
Dr .W. E. H. Chambers, educational
secretary of the American Baptist Pub
lication society.
Began Shelling Paris Early.
PARIS, March 25.—Mysterious
German shell&s resumed falling upon
Paris early today. Many people de
malned in bed and were undisturbed
by the force of the explosions, which
are no greater than caused by many
shells dropped into the city in the
past from enemy aeroplanes.

WASHINGTON, March 25—Petitions
for amendment of jthe espionage law
on lines urged by the American So
ciety to make it more effective, have
been presented to the Senate on be

gia by Senator Hoke Smith, and have
been referred to the Judiciary Com
mittee for consideration in connection
with the proposed amendment. Among
the signers were many of the lead
ing citizens of the state, in which the
proposed amendment seems generally
to be endorsed.
Designed to strengthen Title I, Sec
tion 3, of the Espionage act of June
15, 1917, the amendment would add
the provision:
