PARTY FOR BRIDE-ELECT.
Miss Mary Elza Sheppard was honor
guest at a lovely party yesterday af
ternoon when she was entertained by
Miss Kathleen Denham and Mrs. Fur
low Gatewood at the latter’s home on
Lee street. Quantities of roses con
verted Mrs. Gate wood’s attractive
home into a bower of blooms and the
honor guest was presented with a
bride’s book. The prize for top score
was a box of embroidered handker
chiefs. Thcrse invited were Mrs. E. J.
Eldridge, Miss Melva Clarke, Mrs. R.
E. McNulty, Mrs. Walter Rylander,
Mrs. Harris, Mrs. M. S. Wheeler, Mrs.
Carr Glover, Mrs. Harry Hawkins, Miss

MISS BROWN’S PARTY.
Miss Elizabeth Brown complimented
Miss Mary Elza Sheppard with a pret
ty party yesterday afternoon at her
home on Brown street. Patriotic
decorations of flags and red white and
blue tapers were used and red and
white roses were placed in silver
bowls and vases and mantels and cab
inets. The same colors were introduc
ed in the score cards and refreshments.
Those present, besides the honor
guest, were Miss Melva Clarke, Miss
Kathleen Denham, Mrs. Furlow Gate
wood, Miss Maude Sherlock, Miss

GIRLS’ SCOUT CLUB.
The Girls’ Scout Club was entertain
ed yesterday by Miss Margaret Wheat
ley at her home on Lee street. Decora
tions of roses and dogwood prevailed
throughout the house and sew’ing and
knitting for the soldiers occupied the
guests during the afternoon. Those
present were Miss Orlean Ansley, Miss
Geraldine Payne, Miss Mary Rose
Brown, Miss Nellie Worthy, Miss Pau
line Broadhurst, Miss Elizabeth Har
ris, Miss Marjorie Brown, Miss Mary

The children of the school of the
city have finished their collection of,
books for the soldiers, as requested
by Miss Gunn of the Carnegie Library.
Tire total number of books to date is
two thousand, three hundred and twen -
ty-seven, a really splendid showing.
