MILITARY BALL
HERE ON MAY 18
A Military Ball will be given by the
236th Aero Sei vice Squadron Social
Club, Saturday night. May IS, at the
Windsor Hotel, Mr. L G. Council very
kindly having made an evception to his
rule in this case.
Invitations are being sent out to a ,
list, made up from the best people of
the city.
hTe ball will start at 9 p- m. with
a Grand March, led by Mr. and Mrs.
Harold, and will close promptly at 12
midnight.
The ball is being given as an ex
pression of appreciation by the men
of the 236th Squadron of the many '
kindness that have been shown them
since they have been in Americus, and
as a means of getting acquainted with
the people of the town and surround
ing section.
There will be a reception committee
of which Sgt. James H. Muirhead is
chairman, the other members being
Sgt. John B. Baston, and Privates
Richard Keller, Earl T. Apfel and
Grant T. McGill.
Colonel Dodson has undertaken to
furnish a number of chaperons from j
the membership of the Sumpter Club.
The 236 Aero Squadron Social Club
is offered by Paul R. Roberts, presi
dent; Ednest E. Mason, vice-president
Clifford G. Lee, secretary, and Claude
F. Miller, treasurer. The membership
includes every man in the squadron,
each of whom pays regular dues. Its
objects are the general welfare of the
membership, keeping the Squadron on
its present high plane as an organaza
tion, and the encouragement of social
and athletic activities along clean
lines.
The 236th has several men who have
seen service “over there’’ and it is the
dream of every member of the outfit
to get to the front and do his part in
the campaign of the greatest of all
Republics.
LEPER LEAVES MODEST
FORTUNE TO WILSON
WASHINGTON, May, 13—Jesus Gar
cia, a Filipino who died confined as
a leper at Salinas, Cal. left $140.90 —
his entire fortune to President Wilson
as a means of bringing “everlasting
peace.’’
The money and a one paragraph will
were found after Garcia’s death show
ing that he sacrificed the slight per
sonal comfort that funds might have
brought him.

recorded in the office of the clerk of,

Whereas, said deed provides that if
the said J. M. Pickett should make de- ;
fault in the payment of any of the
interest or principal notes given for (
said loan, which were all executed
contemporanequsly with said deed, |
then the said grantee and holder of (
said notes, or her assigns, might sell
said lands at public outcry at the
usual place for holding sheriff sales 1
in the county in which said lands are 1
located, to the highest bidder for cash,
after advertising the same, time place,
and terms of sale in any newspaper
in which sheriff’s advertisements are
published in said county, once a week
for four (4) weeks. Said deed also
stipulating to pay ten per cent, on the
principal and interest of sai ddebt for
attorney’s fees; and,

the payment of one of the principal
notes of $3,000.00 due on the 19th day
of November, 1917, and interest note
