LEESBURG.
Judge John D. Little, of Atlanta, was
among the visitors Tuesday.
Mrs. J. G. Pruitt is visiting relatives
in Atlanta.
Miss Annie Laurie Bunhiey has re
turned home after a pleasant visit to
Augusta.
Mrs. James Salter aand Mrs. W. H.
Saunders visited Albany Friday.
Mr. Sam Scrutchens, of Albany,
was here Sunday.
Mr. Fred Rowland, who has been
employed at the Central depot for
some time, received notice from a lo
cal board in Alabama to report to mili
tary service.
This section received a much needed
rain last week.
The local board gives out the follow
ing gentlemen have been appointed to
look after farm furloughs: Lees
burg district, John W. Lyon; Adams
district, C. W. Scarborough; Smith
ville district, W. J. McDaniel; Chokee
district, J. I. Kaylor; Red Bone dis
trict, W. L. Aiken; Palmyro dlstict, N.
p. Wade. It is also announced by
the local board that congress has
passed and the president has signed
the till requiring the registration of
all those who have become twenty-one
years of age since June sth last year.
It i s said this registration will add ap
pro* imately 800,000 men tc the army.
Leesburg and vicinity got their first
glimpse of an airplane from Americus
Friday. The ship passed and visited
Albany, returning by here later in the

are visiting relatives here this week.
Mr. G. C. Wallace and family and
Miss Iner-Lee Bass visited Albany Sat
urday.
Mr. Robert King and family are vis
iting relatives here for several days.
Miss Thelma Paul was a visitor here
Thursday.
Mr. Eric Bass, of Leslie, was among
the visitors Sunday.
Miss I.aramore is the charming vis
itor of Miss Ella May Godwin.
Dame Rumor has it that there are to
be two weddngs here early in June.
It is unofficially stated that the fol
lowing young gentlemen who went to
Camp Gordon In April have been re
jected .on account of physical defic
iency. Messrs. Fuller, of Leesburg.

sey are glad to see him able to
be out- Mr. Lipsey generally is slowly
improving.
The meeting of the school patrons
Wednesday night failed to materialize
owing to the prevailing very Incle
ment weather. Another meeting has
been ealled, but no definite date set.
A big barbecue dinner is to be given
by the Masons of Leesburg next
Thursday at the creek just beyond
Starkesville. The dinner is given for
the Masons and their immediate fami
lies.
Mr. J. D. Clifton has moved to his
residence to the house formerly occu
pied by the Baldey family on Starkes
ville road.
Fishing season has opened up strong
here and the local disciples of Izaak
Walton report exceedingly fine luck.
Mr. Watson, of Macon, was working
his regular trade here Monday.
The artesian well on the new court
house grounds has been completed and
a good suppy of pure artesian water
has been obtained.
Mrs. -Leila Watson, Mrs. Duncan
Forrester and Miss Addie Belle For
rester visited Albany Friday.
Work ic progressing rapidly on the
weather bureau’s kite station near
here. Building material is arriving
daily and they hope to have it com
pleted in five or six weeks.
City officials have received word
from Americus, they would like a
landing station at Leesburg. The of
ficials have promptly taken the matter
up with the proper parties and will,
no doubt, furnish pomptly the land
desired. It is the hope the city fa
thers will take prompt action in this
matter as Leesburg must have a land
ing station by all means.
Word Was received here Sunday that
Mr. Robert L Heath, who has been
stationed at Camp Johnson, Jackson
ville, had left the camp there under
orders. Mr. Heath had not at that
time learned his destination
There are several young men here
who come under the new draft act
who are seriously contemplating vol
untary military service at once.
Mr. W W. McDonald was a visitor
here Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Davis and daugh
ter. Miss Nora, were visitors here

Mr. R. F. Pope was a visitor here

Mr. John Lyons has raised some of
( the finest Irish potatoes ever seen
here. He raised them for market and
shipped the first car last week.
Mr. ‘ Bud” Adkins, of Albany, was
attending business here Monday.
Commencement exercises wil begin
at the Leesburg High school on Mon
day night next and extensive prepar
tions are being made. The school man
agement is endeavoring to secure the
services of Mr. John Mock, of Albany,
to make the literary address.
Marriage of Miss aDvis and Mr. Hewett
LEESBURG. Ga.. May 21.—(Sjecial.)
Miss Macy Davis and Mr. Willis
Hewett were married at the residence
of Mr. Roe Lewis in Lee county last
Sunday. Miss Davis is one of Lee
county’s most lovable and charming
young ladies, and Mr. Hewett is a
young business man of Albany and is
of sterling The happy couple
left at once for Albany, where they
will reside in the future.
The best wishes from hundreds of
friends goes with them. The ceremo
ny was performed by Rev. Bridges.
Leesburg School Exercises.
LEESBURG. Ga.. May 21—(Special.)
- The children’s May exercises oc
curred Sunday night and was a most
splendid affair at the Methodist
ehurch.* The affa*r was presented by-
Mrs. R. E. Howe and Miss Lydia
Green and was a brilliant success,
the children carrying out their parts
to perfection. The music was by Mrs.
Howe, and was excellent. One of the
largest crowds ever attending the
riiuicb was present, standing room
being at a premium. All present pro
nounced the occasion a perfect suc
cess.
Cintizens Sign Petition.
LEESBURG, Ga.. May 2. (Special.)
—A petition was circulated in Lees
-1 lurg last week to Judge Littlejohn to
turn out of jail on their own recogni
zance the two white women, Margie
Rodgers : n 1 Annie Leßell, one charg
ed with „igamy and the other with va
grancy. These women had been in
| fail here charged with the above of
| fences some time before the last ses
sion of Suprior court. The grand jury
at last term of court failed to indict
them However, they are being held
in jail as witnesses until the July
term of city court. There were 75 or
80 names on the petition, and by some
of the best people in Lee county who
think the women should be given their
liberty. Judge Littlejohn has not yet
acted on the petition.

LEESBURG Ga , May 21—(Special.)
—Mrs. F. F. King, one of Leesburg’s
most beloved ladies, suffered a stroke
of paralysis last Thursday, and has
been critically ill since. She has only
been able to speake in monosyllables
since the stroke. Her children who
reside elsewhere, Mr. Tison King, of
Doughs, and Mrs. R. L. King, of Prs
ton, in fact her entire family, were
summoned, and are now at the bed
side.
Mrs. King has hundreds of friends
who will be pained to hear of her mis
fortune and wish for her an early re
covery. The latest reports from Mrs.
King state she Is slightly Improved.
Leesburg vs. Albany.
LEESBURG, Ga.. May 21—(Special.)
—Leesburg and Albany crossed bats
at the local ball ground last Friday
afternoon, which resulted in a victory
for Leesburg, with a score of 17 to 7.
The game was listlessly played on ac
count of superiority of the Leesburg
players. The visitors’ pitcher was
batted at will, four circuit drives be
ing made off his delivery. The fol
lowing players knocked home runs:
