Noi withstanding the repeated state
ment of farmers and business men of
Americus that there is no surplus ot
labor in Sumter county, and that ev
ery able-bodied man here is needed
badly in farming and other essential
war indnsti’ies, the state authorities
at Atlanta are calling for more la
borers.
Governor Dorsey has just telegraph
ed Franc Mangum. chairman of the
Sumter County Council of Defense,
asking that “all good citizens assist
the United States employment service
to provide labor” for the government
picric acid plant at Brunswick. In
his telegram, the governor says that
delay in construction of the plant may
result in disaster to the United
States army, at the same time urging
that this labor be secured only from
sources that will not injure essen
tial war industries- of which cotton
farming is one.
The telegram in full is as follows:
Atlanta, C.a„ August 24. 1918.

“Americus, Ga.
“War department states labor short,
age is seriously delaying construc
tion of munition plants. Delay may
result in disaster to our armies.

ON ALBANIA FRONT
VIENNA, August 26. (Via Lon
don.) —The official - communication
from the Austrian war office tod
says:
“Our attack is progressing suc
cessfully in Albania. After a bitter
Struggle yesterday Italian bridgehead
positions north of Fiere were taken.
During the pursuit which followed
our troops crossed the Semini. We
also made progress near Berat and
in the Seloves mountains.
“The bombing attacks of our air
men against are continuing.”
