GILBERTAPPEALS
FOR FARM LABOR
“The demand for labor to gather
the crops is most urgent and unless
sacrifices are made in this direction
and labor is forthcoming from the
places nd industries that can spare
labor, the harvest cannot be saved
and Georgia will not be doing her
l»a;t to supply food for our soldiers
now lighting for us overseas,” is the
message Governor Dorsey is sending
# o the Chairmen of the County Coun
cils of Defense in Georgia, urging
their aid in recruiting labor for the
harvest time.
The message is sent out through
Judge Price Gilbert, Chairman of the
Central Committe, Georgia Council of
Defense, who in a letter to County
Council Chairmen, asks them to orga
nize every County in Georgia for the
purpose of supplying farm labor to
gather the fall crops.
Every laborer that can be released
in towns and cities for even one day
should be listed in a properly organiz
ed bureau and supplied as needed to
save the harvest. The demand is
urgent and patriotic men in every
community are urged to feel their ob
ligation in this direction, and to make
sacrifices in the matter of their la
bor. in order that the war harvest be
gathered and the men oveseas sup
plied with necessary food.
A fair example of the organization
necessary is Thomas County, where
through the County Council of De
fense. conditions have been so adjust
ed as to utilize all non-essential labor
that can be released from the town
ever temporarily during the harvest
time

in France, had bestowed upon him thr
Croix de Guerre, the badge of the
Legion of Honor, and the Medal Mili
