SATURDAY GALA
DAY IN DRIVE;
DORTCARSHOWN
Saturday was a gala day in The
Times-Recorder’s big subscription
drive. The famous Dort car arrived and
was placed on display in the business
office along with other prizes and they
were viewed and admired by hundreds
who were callers at the office during
the day and up until late in the eve
ning.
It is truly wonderful the large num
ber of ladies taking part in this cam
paign and was indeed pleasant and
interesting to see and hear the ladies
meet and comment on “who would be
the owner” of this attractive automo
bile that is fast becoming the most
famous car sold in this section. Many
are contending for this big prize that
has been promised to some one in re
turn for their efforts and time, with
letter—THlS IS ONE CAMPAIGN IN
out money and without price, and this
promise is being carried out to the
WHICH THERE WILL BE NO MON
EY SPENDING.
This fact is absolutely true and the
ladies who have thoroughly investigat
ed the plan and system of issuing votes
■on subscriptions are quite sure that
the one who really secures the high
«st vote in the regular way will be
the owner of the car. The other twen
ty prizes, ten for eacn district, are
not going begging by any means and
the great drive is truly on and on
in good shape. The ladies who have
failed to let their friends know that
•they are interested and will be active
are losing votes and those who gave
them votes in the beginning of the
campaign are now placing their votes
for the ones known to be active. More
than a hundred of the ladies are as
sisting in this subscription drive and
the many hundreds of subscribers that
are being added to the list and the
payment of subscriptions by those al
ready subscribers assures the cam
paign being one of the most success
ful ever attempted in this section of
the state.
So many are taking active parts
that the securing of votes is most
difficult and the payments of subscrip
tions seems few to the eager ones,
but when the fact is considered that
the paying of subscriptions is so divid
ed that no one contestant can have
secured very many to her credit, and
it is simply a case of who will be in
the lead at the end of the drive.
The big extra vote for a $20.00)
■club is still on for this week and those
who really want to assist some en
trant should pay their subscriptions
this week. It is the largest extra vote
that will be offered at any time during
the remaining time of the drive. The
campaign ends Saturday, April 26,
1919. Secure the votes while they are
high, for they will commence to de
cline and decline very fast after this
week.

“WORTH WEIGHT

COLUMBUS MAN
His wife had worse case of catarrh
you ever saw: dripping, bad breath;
Dreco has relieved it all.
“Dreco has done more for my wife
than any medicine she ever tried,
trying to cure a bad case of catarrh.”
and she has taken about all of them,
states Mr. Richard Hill, of 1008 Patten
avenue, Columbus, Ga. Mr. Hill is em
ployed as the Harvey Lumber Co., in
a responsible position.
“Always there has been a dripping
into the throat from the back of her
nose, which kept her haw-king and
spitting, trying to clear her throat.
Her breath was fould; she became
quite nervous; had dizzy spells; appe
tite went off to nothing and her gen
eral health was poor.
“We kept reading about the new
medicine Dreco, and being a believer
in the old time roots and herbs, I
bought her a bottle and it has proven
the best money I ever spent. It has
positively relieved the catarrh, bad
breath and nervousness. She never
has a dizzy spell any more; her appe
tite is big and her weight increasing.
Her sleep is sound and refreshing and
she feels young and happy. Dreco has
been worth its weight in gold and I
gladly give a public endorsement for
it."
Dreco is purely vegetable and acts
on the vital organs in a pleasant and
efficient manner. Dreco is sold by all

BARBARA FINDS PROOF OF CHECK
GIVEN NEIL BY BLANCHE.
CHAPTER XLV.
One rainy morning about a w-eek af
ter Mrs. Orton’s dinner party, I went
down-town to do some shopping. Neil
had been so disgruntled and moody,
that I thought I would surprise him
by making a visit to his office. I had
hardly been able to refrain from ques
tioning him more at length about his
i actions at the dinner, but had com
pelled myself to wait.
I still held firmly to the idea that it
was my right to know of all that con
cerned him, even though, after all these
! years he still refused to recognize it
as my right. But early impressions
are very strong. At home father and
mother had discussed the slightest
i matters pertaining to everything con
: cerning his business, as well as the
home
Neil was out. I seated myself In
his private office before a long ma
hogany table. I opened the drawer,
and idly turned over the papers.
Should I clear it out for him while I
waited?
I decided that I would. On a blot
ter, underneath a lot of papers, was
the sac-simile of a check faintly out-
I lined. I recalled that I had read that,
j by holding a blotter in front of a mir
ror, one was enabled to decipher the
faintest characters with ease. I had
no thought of spying—no slightest idea
I should Any anything save the ordin
ary check which he had given me for
household expenses. It was the cu
rious act, such as is often done be
cause of some simple reason.
To my surprise, the characters stood
in bold relief. But I fairly gasped
when I realized that the check was for
a very large amount, and that it was
signed by Blanche Orton! I looked at
the date, and it struck me as coinci
dent with the visit of that horrid Mr.
Scott. I looked at my engagement
book, and saw it was a few days after
I had entertained him at dinner.
Just why I should have connected
the two things I cannot tell. Why see
ing the check should have reminded
me of Mr. Scott, I have never under
stood. But I soon forgot the fact in
my desire to know why Blanche Orton
should have given Neil such a check,
and what it had been given for. Os
course, it brought to> mind our talk in
the car, the night of her dinner, also
their argument. This check might
have been the subject of their conver
sation, the topic upon which they so
evidently disagreed Yet, it was dated
so long before.
I laid the blotter on the top of the
table. Then I put all the other pa
pers back in the drawer and waited
for Neil. I had come to the office on
impulse. He had not looked well for
some days. Really not since the night
of her dinner. He was anxious about
something, but gave me either sharp
or evasive answers w-hen I questioned
him.
More and more was it borne in upon
me that there was something wrong. It
xve were living beyond our means, we
must retrench. It might be unpleas
ant, but it was far preferable to hav
ing Neil worried and cross.
I felt quite the heplful wife as
planned that I -would tell him of the
many ways in which we could econo
mize without it becoming too much
of a hardship. Then as I glanced

around at his handsome, expensively
furnished offices, it seemed to be that
here, too, might be retrenchment. Sure
ly, he had more room than was neces
sary. His rent must be enormous, I
would also suggest that to him. He was
so careless of money that it probably
had not occurred to him.
I had noted, too, that the girls—his
stenographers—were not particularly
busy. Perhaps he could get along with
one less. That blond one with the
highly rouged cheeks was reading a
novel. He might dispense with her.
So I planned and waited. But al

blotter, and the meaning of that large
check drawn by Blanche Orton to my
