CLEAN-UP DAY
IS PLANNED BY
LESLIE WOMEN
LESLIE, April s.—The newly organ
ized improvement club of Leslie boasts
of remarkable growth in its short life
of only four weeks. Much interest
and enthusiasm were manifest at the
meeting Friday afternoon, April 4.
The chairman of the Playground, Li
brary, Literary and Musical commit
tees gave splendid reports of their
work.
New features of club work were dis
cussed, some of which were decided
upon.
One plan is for the first meeting in
each month to be a business one when
the discussions will be upon town
improvements. Another plan is for
the last meeting of the month to be a
social one, at which time the program
will be devoted to musical and liter
ary studies.
A committee of three from the club
were appointed by the president to go
before the city council and present a
plan for Clean-Up Week and secure
their co-operation.
Clean-Up Week will be observed in
April.

The fire department responded to
two small fires Saturday and on? Fri
day evening. Saturday forenoon, a
gasoline fire in an auto engine at
Turpin’s garage on East Lamar street
called out the firemen, but there was
no damage. At 4:20 p. m. a small
roof fire at the home of Will Brooks,
on Jefferson street, gave them a run.
Friday evening the department made a
run to the home of Jim Phillips, col
ored, on Spring street, just across the
railroad, where a bon fire near the
house had led neighbors to believe the
house was afire.
