GOOD PRICES IN
PROSPECT FOR.i
PEACHGROWERS
FORT VALLEY, April 24. —The '
present Indications are that the peach j
drop lor the ensuing year will be one j
of Jim most profitable ever grown.
While it is admitted by practically j
all of the growers in this immediate
and surrounding section that the crop
t»f Cnis year will not be unusually
Jilts', the return is expected by all
to be greated than that of any other
V'sjjt Tha. reason for this is that all
•fruits are bringing unusually high
praeeK. 1 | i. |, ||i
While it is a fact the growers have
newer failed to get what is consider
ed j.,. good price for their fruit since
til.- rganization of the Georgia Fruit
Exchange, they are expecting an ex
traordinarily good price this year. ,
/Another tiling that indicates the
prices are going to be higher this
year than ever before is that even
tin.- .early abnormally high prices are
being paid for the fruit on contract.
This means that the grower who !
soM his fruit at this price will re- ■
oeiix- this amount for every crate he
packs and will not have to pay any
starage, icing or commission charges.
Hus is an unusual price for .
peaches J. o. b. Fort Valley, as it
tak*-.s some money to get the fruit in
iced 'tars, to have it transported to its
destination and, last of all but not the
feast of .all, the produce man has to
Ita his pay for disposing of the
fruit This means that these peaches
wiE.nave to bring between $3 and $4
for che speculator to make anything.
T*us price was paid by a northern
commission man and it is reasonable
to snppose that he would not be pay
in® .such unusually high prices for
Craft unless he was going to benefit
by tire .deaL Everything seems to
imvft v. tendency toward a very prof
itable .crop this year, which is needed
by Jthe farmers on account of cotton
conditions.
There is always some uneasiness
as to the safety of the peach crop
through the winter and spring
tnoi&ks. So far the crop has not been
injured to any extent, and the grow-- ’
«rs are confident that it will not be
iuj nrecL the uneasiness continues j
'ont.il after Easter, but as a general (
thing all the growers feel safe after |
this date has passed. Last year the
firs;, peaches were shipped at an un
usnnJlv early date, but this year the
first will probably leave here at the
asasj time. There will not be quite
as many oars shipped during June of
ShL- year as last year, for the reason
that .the crop as a whole is much
lattr-r, which is of benefit to the grow
ers. There will be plenty of labor,
a-i&d the handling of the crop will be |
done smoothly, as is always the case, i

A departure in Milady’s spring and summer millinery creations. It
is modeled after the mackerel, its color being white. Fins are in evi
dence, fish eyes gelam from the head and the tail is poised for a dip un
der the waves. Small celluloid fins or petals are used in construction
of the head. Altogether the “Fish Hat” presents a very startling ap
pearance. (c) Underwood & Underwood.
Chemists Will Bar

ATLANTA, April 25. —Georgia chem
ists have returned home from the vic
tory meeting of the American Chemi
cal Society which was held in Buffa
lo. Because of the society’s contri
butions to the chemical warfare ser
vice of the United States its activities
have acquired an international sig
nificance.
Among the outstanding features of
the session just ended which will,
it is believed, have its effect on the
medical colleges of Georgia and the
South, was the decision of the Socie
ty to oppose the renewal of duty-free
importation of chemicals and. appar
atus from Germany as before the war
on the ground that the monopoliza
