/] AMUSEMENTS (
Charlie Chaplin Coming.
Charlie Chaplin will be the attrac
tion at the Opera Hoi.se Friday, June
27, when he appears in his latest mil
lion dollar comedy, “Sunnyside.” Ev
erybody is anticipating the coming
with a great deal of pleasure, as they
are laughing yet over his last one,
“Shoulder Arms,” which was run
There are a number of side-split
ting situations in “Sunnyside,” if the
posters are to be relied upon, and a
genuine treat is in store for all who
are fortunate enough to get a seat.
Manager Dudley says this is one day
that we will need an auditorium to
accbmmodate the crowds that will
want to see this peerless comedian
at his best.
J. W. Wheatley Jr., went to At
lanta Saturday to drive back a Wil
lys-Knight “Eight” for the Hooks Mo
tor company. J. D. Hooks says this
will be the first Willys-Knight eigh'
cylinder brought into this territory.

THRIFT CLUB IN
EVERY BUSINESS
HOUSE PLANNED
I
Announcement was made yesterday
by Postmaster Davenport that dur- j
ing the 13 months from December,
1918, to January, 1919, Thrift
Stamps to the value of $161,137 were 1
sold through this postoffice.
Following this announcement it
was stated that a thrift club organi
zation movement would be started
in Americus Monday by Chas But
ler, field representative of the treas
ury department war loan organiza
tion, savings division. Mr. Butler was
here Saturday and exprseed amaze- ,
ment at the war stamp showing by
the Americus postoffice, declaring
the total to be twice what was to
have been expected.
“We are starting out to organize i
Thrift clubs in every business eutab- :
lishment, every school, every com
munity, every farm,” said Mr. Butler,
“and I expect to remain here just as
long as is necessary to complete the
job.
“There will be no b’g stick busi
ness about it. If the propritor ob
jects to an organization in his place
of business, that is all right and the ■
end of it. If a business man takes to i
the idea—-and many of them are en- ;
thusiatsic—very well. It will be en
tirely optional with the employes
whether they join or not. In some ca
ses we have had employers threaten
to discharge employes who refused t<
join, but we stand for nothing like i
that. We want this to be entirely
voluntary. W» enroll members whi
will agree to buy one or more stamps
every week. They are under no obli
gation whatever. They may increase
decrease or discontinue the amount
entirely, with notification.
“The whole movement is to foster
the spirit of thrift and teach peoph
by experience the value of saving. It
makes better people and a better
country.”
Mr. Butler deciares that he will at
tempt to establish stamp agencies in
every business house in the city. “It
is our object,” said he, “to make it
convenient for every man, woman
and child to save small change. Thir
is most easily done at the place where
a purchase is made. If a store or
a shop keeps these stamps, they will
' o taken in change very often.”
Jesse Hill, of Cobb, while in Am
ericus last week bought a Willys-I
Knight four-cylinder car from the
Hooks Motor company. 1

Americus Experiences Going Back For
Ten Years.
Kidney weakness can be cured.
But what caused it once will cause
it again.
Here’s an Americus man who has
had several attacks.
Several times in ten years Mr. Rigs
by has used Doan’s Kidney Pills.
He says that Doan’s have never fail
ed him.
Ten years ago, Mr. Rigsby publicly
endorsed Doan’s.
He now confirms his statement.
What better proof of merit?
Proved by years of experlecce
Told by Americus people.
This is convincing testimony:
W. W. Rigsby, butcher, 205 Prince
St., says: ‘I consider Doan's Kidney
Pills a fine remedy for backache and
kidney trouble I suffered from kidney
complaint, my back ached a good
deal and my kidneys were out of order.
