DR. BOND STATES
BREEDING PLACES
OF PESTS ESCAPE
The effort of the health author
ities here to eliminate the mosquito
continues, though Dr. B. F. Bond who
is directing the work, said today the
continued abundant rainfall had in
terfered seriously with the activity
of the workers.
Discussing the subject this morn
ing Dr. Bond said that the authorities
greatly appreciated the co-operation
of the Boy Scouts in an effort to lo
cate and eradicate the breeding
places of mosquitos and flies, but ow
ing to the abundant rainfall and neg
lect of property owners we are re
eiving many complaints from citizens
regarding the increase of mosquitoes.
“We have investigated several in
stances and find an accumulation of
water in cellars and basements, and
small ponds,” said Dr. Bond, and
continuing he said:
“Our oiling forces have been ma
terially reduced- and it is impracti
cal almost for us to personally de
tect each breeding place within your
private enclosure. I want to make
an urgent request for the property
owners to further cooperate with the
health authorities by making a care
ful survey of their premises, and to
apply oil to any accumulation of
water that cannot be drained, and in
order that the small water containers
may be seen it is very necessary that
the weeds be removed.
It will probably cost you less to
cut the weeds than for the city to
have it done and this is a very im
portant part of the sanitary pre
gram being inaugurated by the city.
