aiL They walked slowly over to
see what in the world was the mat
ter with Alphonse, the white porcu
pine, for Quilly couldn’t under
stand why his white spears were all
up in the air.
Alphonse looked like a white ball.
“Hello, Alphonse,” called Quilly
“you needn’t be afraid of that old
dog. Ranger, his teeth aren’t sharp
any more, and once I had a fight
with him and he, had so many of my
spears in his face and neck that it
took little William days to get them
all out.
“He didn’t know that Alphonse
was a porcupine,” laughed Jimmie
Coon, “and if little William hadn’t
dragged Ranger off, we were going
to have lots of fun and a grand
fight.”
Alphonse, the white porcupine,
slowly unrolled himself when he
Ward all dinger was over, and he
and the brown porcupines all began
tc eat alder shoots cn the bank of
the brook,
William and bred dragged Ranger
to the canoe and William made
Ranger lie down. Ranger whim
pered and cried, for he was at heart
a good hunting dog and although he
is old he remembered the days

over in a minute. And then when
they saw that awful sight little Wil
liam couldn’t believe ftis eyes.
The wood on the inside of that
lovely canoe was all chewed and
scratched and eaten off. Those por-
cupines had eaten the wood because
the canoe had been soaked with sea
and they loved salt better than
anything.
W;’iian« squeezed his eyes shut,
but big tears would slip from under
the lids ard roll down his cheeks.
Jimmie Coon rudged Teddy Pos
sum and said “Look at William,
look at those tears. They look just
like Peter Rabbit’s tears.”
; Fred couldn’t understand why Wil
i Ham felt so badly, for he had never
had a canoe and he didn’t know that
William loved it better than any
thing in the world, except Ranger.
William wiped the tears away on
the sleeve of his sweater, and said,
“Never mind, Fred, it won’t leak
anyway, and we will take it away
from this place and I will find a new
place, to keep it.
As the boys jushed off from the
bank into the stream and legan to
' paddle up stream, Fred said, “Well,
who in the world chewed the inside
of that canoe?”
“Porcupines, of course,” s&id Wil
liam. Those brown porcupines and
that white one. They must have been
at work a long time and I can’t get
into a fight with them for cnly one
nearly kiPetl Ranger once before.”

How Character Is Revealed.
The little things that we do without
thinking are the things that tell what
we really are. We may desire to pos
sess a character that we have not yet
attained, or we may pose for the kind
of person we are not, but our unguard
ed movements betray us. What we are

MADE HELPLESS
BY RHEUMATISM
ZIRON Did This Kentucky Gentleman Mora
Good Than Any Other Medicine.
“Eight years ago I was down with
rheumatism," writes M. J. Hutcherson,
of Tomkinsville, Ky. “I was helpless
for three months, unable to even feed
myself. Doctors doctored me and I got
up, but have had bad health ever since,
with soreness and weakness across my
ha-k and in my •mu and legs. I final
ly took Ziron, and it has done me
more good than any medicine I have
ever taken, and I intend to take more
of ft, for it is the best medicine I ever
used. I have found it just what it is
recommended to be, and I am ready to
tell other suffering people that Ziron
helped me, and anxious to speak a
word of praise for it.”
Ziron acts on the blood and has been
found of great value in Rheumatism,
I indigestion. Anemia and General
I Weakness. Ziron puts iron Into the

Bl CAUSE
KIDNEI TROUBLE
I
Take a glass of Salts if your Back
hurts or Bladder bothers—Meat
forms uric acid.
If you must have your meat every day,
eat it, but flush your kidneys with salts
occasionally, says a noted authority who
tells us that meat forms uric acid which
almost paralyzes the kidneys in their ef
forts to expel it from the blood. They
become sluggish and weaken, then you
suffer with a dull misery in the kidney
region, sharp pains in the back or sick
headache, dizziness, your stomach sours,
tongue is coated and when the weather
is bad you have rheumatic twinges. The
urine gets cloudy, full of sediment, the
channels often get sore and irritated,
obliging you to seek relief two or three
time during the night.
To neutralize these irritating acids, to
cleanse the kidneys and flush off the
body’s urinous waste get four ounces of
Jad Salts from any pharmacy here:
take a tablespoonful in a glass of
water before breakfast for a few days
and your kidneys will then act fine. This
famous salts is made from the acid of
grapes and lemon juice, combined with
lithia, and has been used for generations |
to flush and stimulate sluggish kidneys,
also to neutralize the acids in urine,
so it no longer irritates, thus ending
bladder weakness.
Jad Salts is inexpensive; cannot in
jure, and makes a delightful effervescent
lithia-water drink.
