MIDWAY AT FAIR
TO SHOW CLEAN
FEATURES ONLY
“There is one feature of the Sum- I
ter county fair on which I want to j
assure the mothers and fathers of the
community,'’ said Joseph Perkins
yesterday, “and that is as to the mid
way. I have been assured by Mr.
Campbell, owner of the H. W. Camp
bell shows, which will furnish the
midway attractions, that there jwill
not be a single objectionable feature
in all of the many exhibitions on the
grounds. Nor will there be any
gambling devices. Everything will be
clean and moral, I have been assured,
and Mr. Campbell is personally in
charge of the shows and will be able
to see that his promise is made good.
“There will be only one game of
chance , which is an amusement
scheme pure and simple, and that
will be the merchandise wheel, at’
every turn of which somebody gets
the package of chocolates or other
prize, the retail price of which is the
amount of money paid in by the num
ber of holders.
“There will be several free attrac
tion features in connection with the
midway, and the whole, I am sure,
will be found in no way objectionable
to any.”

devise ways and means to lower the
high cost of living, here’s an oppor
tunity to do a little “profiteering” on
our own accouunt—namely to ac
quire this charming silk underslip,
which in a shop would be priced at
at least S2O, for—almost nothing!
That is, if you happen to possess a
silk dress which can no longer be
disguised into any of the prevailing
fashions.
Before it retired from public view,
this slip was a pink crepe meteor
evining. dress. Taffeta ribbon was
the only new item bought, and this
is of a deeper shade of pink, ma
chine pleated, and forms the fes
toon rows on the skirt, and trims
also the bodice. The clusters of
tiny rosebuds add an alluringly
dainty touch. The lowering of the
ribbon shoulder straps to the waist
line is original. Ready bought net
or Georgette frills may be substitut
ed for the pleated ribbon, or narrow
bands of point d’esprit net may be
inserted.

WISTLY TUNES,
PRETTY GIRLIES
IN ‘COME ALONG’
The first big musical comedy of
the season comes along to the stage |
of the Opera House when “Come
Along," which has been booked for i
Thursday, October 16, is to be seen
and will be the treat of the season.
Direct from a successful stay at
the Nora Bayes theatre, New York,
the organization which comprises
thirty-five people, carries its own
special scenery, electrical effects, and
costumes that are the latest Broad
way creations and when worn by the
beauty chorus form the daintiest and
prettiest picture imaginable. The
prima donna of the company is a
Southern girl, Miss Margaret Rad
cliffe Gooch, who has won her way to
almost a stellar position and whose
pleasing voice and handsome gowns
are the cause of envy and admiration
among the audience where “Come
Along" has been presented.
The book is by Bide Dudley, the
humorist of the New York Evening
World and the critics of Broadway
have called it “sparkling with humor
and a new departure in musical com
edy." The music is the whistlea
ble sort and lingers after you leave
the theatre, while the cast which are
entrusted with the various roles are
all artists whose talents have within
the past few weeks appealed most fa
vorably to Richmond, Columbia, Au
gusta, Greensboro, Raleigh and other
audiences, and whose vocal ability
and clever mirth provoking capabili
ties stamp them as able support for
Miss Gooch.
A musical show without snappy,
good-looking, likeable chorus is like
coffee without sugar and to say that
the “Come Along Beauty Chorus" is
the prettiest and best dancing chorus
touring the Southland this season,
is by no means an exaggeration and
Americus is sure to agree that they
are “likeable and loveable,” when
they display the dainty “Ann Pen
nington” costumes and waft their
captivating smiles over the footlights.

The Buick Steering Gear
The Buick steering gear has been de
signed to combine the attributes of
safety and ease of operation,
The principal advantages are entire relief from
road shocks being transmitted through the steer
ing mechanism, and ability to follow the tracks in
mud or sand without wearisome maneuvering
and without the danger of jumping the ruts. So
that the easy handling of the Buick steering
mechanism will be appreciated by all drivers.
As a result of this design, the factor of safety in
Buick steering gears is very high. And because of
the leverage provided by the the large steering
wheel, anti-friction bearings and the positive lubri
cation of every part, the car may be operated for
many hours at a time without fatigue to the driver.
