CHAIRMAN TELLS
WHAT RED CROSS
PLANS IN PEACE
EY GORDON HOWELL
i County Chairman, Red Cross Third
Roll Call.
j The Red Cross committees are
daily confronted with the question:
! “What are you going to do with the
( money raised, and what is the use of
raising money, now that the war is;
over?”
’ In order that the people of Ameri
cus and surrounding country may
.know just what are the plans of the
Red Cross are, I am going to give for
the next few days a brief sketch of
the plans. Today I am discussing
Nursing Service.
During the Spanish-American war
! it was found that the sanitary condi
i tion of army camps and the men gen
' erally must be improved. Twenty
thousands soldiers during thio period
'died from typhoid fever and 14,000
( died on the border from the same
cause. During the World’s war, out
|of the 185,000 men wounded, 182,-
• 000 were restored to health so that
they could return to line of duty, due
;to the good work of the medical corps
and the Red Cross.
The influenza alone killed 500,000
I in America in one year, just ten times
as many as were killed of our men
! during the recent war. During the
I year 1918 150,000 people died of tu
-1 berculosis. Each year 325,000 babies
die—in fact two out of each seven.
During the recent war 800,000 men
were rejected for physical disability;
it is estimated the 75 per cent were
disqualified from preventable dis
eases. Are not these figures enough
to make up sit up and take notice.
The Red Cross plans for the con
trol and prevention of diseases by:
Ist. Continuing educational
classe in home hygiene and home
nursing in order to make every home
better prepared to meet the problems
of sickness and hygiene.
2nd.—Establishing of a public
health nursing service-in every chap
ter.
The idea is to prevent diseases,
then it will not be necessary to cure.
In connection will be a question box.
The public health nurse will con
tribute to the health conditions of a
community in the feffowing ways:

"A SPLENDID TONIC”
Says Hixson Lady Who, On Doc*
tor’s Advice, Took Cardui
And Is Now Well.
Hixson, Tenn. —“About 10 years ago
I was..." says Mrs. J. B. Gadd, of
this place. "I suffered with a pain in
my left side, could not sleep at night ,
with this pain, always in the left
side...
My doctor told me to use Cardui. I
took one bottle, which helped me and
after my baby came, I was stronger
and better, but the pain was still
there.
I at first let It go, but began to get
weak and in a run-down condition,
bo I decided to try some more Cardui,
which I did.
This last Cardui which I took made
me much better, in fact, cured me. It
has been a number of years, still I
have no return of this trouble.
I feel it was Cardui that cured me,
and I recommend it as a splendid fe
male tonic.”
Don’t allow yourself to become
weak and run-down from womanly
troubles. Take Cardui. It should sure
ly help you, as it has so many thou
sands of other women in the past 40
years. Headache, backache, sideache}
nervousness, sleeplessness, tired-out
feeling, are all signs of womanly trou
ble. Other women get relief by taking
Cardui. Why not you? All druggists.

1 DRINK HOT TEA
FOR A BAD COLD
Get 'a small package of Hamburg
Breast Tea at any pharmacy. Take a
tablespoonful of the tea, put a cup of
boiling water upon it, pour through a
sieve and drink a teacup full at any
time during the day or before retiring.
It is the most effective way to break a
cold and cure grip, as it opens the
pores of the skin, relieving congestion.
Also loosens the bowels, thus driving a
cold from the system.
Try it the next time you suffer from
a cold or the grip. It is inexpensive
and entirely vegetable, therefore safe
and harmless.
RUB BAGKACHrAND
LUMBAGO RIGHT OUT
Bub Pain and Stiffness away with
a small bottle of old honest
St. Jacobs Liniment
When your back is sore and lame or
lumbago, sciatica or rheumatism has
you stiffened up, don’t suffer! Get a
30 cent bottle of old, honest “St.
Jacobs Liniment” at any drug store,
pour a little in your hand and rub it
right into the pain or ache, and by the
, time you count fifty, the soreness and
lameness is gone.
! Don’t stay crippled ! This soothing,
penetrating oil needs to be used only
once. It takes the ache and pain right
out of your back and ends the misery.
It is magical, yet absolutely harmless
and doesn’t burn the skin.
Nothing else stope lumbago, sciatica
and lame back misery to promptlyl

Catarrhal Deafness Cannot Be Curec
by local applications, as they cannot reach
the diseased portion of the ear. There is
only one way to cure catarrhal deafness,
and that is by a constitutional remedy.
Catarrhal Deafness is caused by an in
flamed condition of the inucour. lining of
the Eustachian Tube. When this tube i$
inflamed you have a rumbling sound or Im
perfect hearing, and when it ia entirely
closed. Deafness is the result. Unless the
inflammation can be reduced and this tube
restored to its normal condition, hearing
will be destroyed forever. Many cases of
deafness are caused by catarrh, which is
an Inflamed condition of the mucous sur

the blood on the mucous surfaces of th<*
