I skins. There he would get a good
price for it. It would be made into
a muff to keep some little girl’s
hands warm.”
“Where would I be all of this
time?” asked Major Pole Cat.
“If the Hunter should kill you,
the great spirit would take you away
from this world and, if you had been
a kind and good Pole Cat, you would
be happy all the time.
“So it’s my fur that the Hunter
wants!” Major could not quite un
derstand. He pondered over it for
a moment and then said, “I don’t
t..ink the Hunter will get my skin. I
ned it myself..”
“But how will you get in and out
of your home without going into the
Hunter’s trap?” aske. Tinker.
“I thought you the King, would
keep me safe from harm.”
“If you will do as I tell you,” said
Tinker Bob, “you will be safe. Will
•you do it.?”
Major Pole Cat hesitated a mo-'
ment and then replied: “My first les
son taught me to listen to thei
King. I will do anytti’ng ycu say.” I
“All right. Don’t go near your
home tonight,” instructed the King,
“but go at once to the Hunter’s!
home. There you will find a chicken I
coop with many chickens in it. Make!
tracks all around the coop and even
inside, but do- not disturb a chicken. I
Then come back by the same way you ■
go and cross your trackss many
times.”
Major Pole Cat did as he was told,!
although he thought it strange he
could not disturb a chicken, for he
liked fresh chicken very much.
In the morning when the Hunter
went to his chicken coop he noticed I
at once Major Pole Cat’s tracks, then i
he counted his chickens and found [
that all were there. “Isn’t that ;
strange?” said he. “A Pole Cat here I
and no chickens gone! He has I
taught me a lesson while I was try-!
ing to kill him he came right into’
my coop and did no harm. He has
returned good for evil.”
Then the Hunter took the trap
away from Major Pole Cat’s door,
and Major was glad that he had lis—
■aed ro the King.

$77,000 For Treasury
As Cash Gets Low
ATLANTA, Nov. 3.—That old
song of the Confedemcy, “Gold was '
so scarce that the treasury quaked
if a dollar but dropped in the till,”
was getting to be somewhat appli
cable to the state exchequer when
the Georgia Railway & Power Com
pany came to the rescue with its sub
sidiary or affiliated little friend, the
Georgia Railway & Electric Com
pany.
Briefly, these two concerns have
just handed in checks for taxes ag
gregating a little the rise of $77,-
000.
The payment for taxes for the
present year, held up while arbitra
tion proceedings were going on, in
which the state was essaying to hike
the property value by about 6,-
000,000. This move was defeated
eventually and the company prompt
ly sent in the checks for its taxes.
“We are pretty shy,” said Comp
troller General Wright. “We were
i wondering how salaries were going
ito be paid today. The payment came
as a sort of windfall.’’

Atlanta Gets 5 New
33d Degree Masons
ATLANTA, Nov. 3.—Five Altanta
men, all prominent in Masonic circles,
have just returned from Washington,
where they were summoned to re
ceive the honorary thirty-third de
gree, the highest honor but one in
| the power of Masonry to bestow.
[They are Thomas H. Jeffries, Henry
C. Heinz, Dr. Claude N. Hughes,
■James L. Mayson and Dewaid Cohen,
i All have been active in Masonic af
fairs not only in Georgia, but through
[ out the entire South, and have at
tained much prominence through their
long years of activ’ty.
The honorary thirty-third degree is
conferred by the supreme council of
i thirtyf-third degree Masons, which
meets every two years at Washington,
ID. C. No anticipatory announcement
of the elections is made, while there
is no such thing as making application’
for the honor. Should any Mason
apply to the supreme council for the
degree, he would be automatically
barred from receiving it. There are
now eight honorary thirty-third de
gree Masons in Georgia.
