The salient characteristics of the
Dort can be summed up in three sen
tences.
First, it is a car that needs service
attention but very infrequently.
Second, when it does seem desirable
to give the Dort a “going over” you
< can do it yourself easily, quickly, and
inexpensively because of the marked
simplicity and accessibility of Dort
construction.
Third, its mileage per set of tires,
gallon of gasoline, and quart of oil is
perceptibly higher than common.

THE STORY OF HER LIFE AND
LOVE. |
CHAPTER XXXII.
Emmy Shudders at the Name of
Tipton.
Sarah let the young men in. She ' 1
was done up in her white apron and
white cap. I had a tender little con
versation with her earlier in the as- .
ternoon about doing this. She is ,
the best girl ever, but sne does hate |
to attend the front door in style, j
It’s her very biggest failing, and she |
doesn’t have any desire to overcome
it. I had spoken to Mamma about
asking her, but she had said:
“Sweet Angel of Love, you do it;
Sarah will anything for you.’’
So I had waited for an auspicious

moment after the lukch dishes were
washed and Sarah was humming a
tune, a real love ditty, out in the
Hammock in the back yard, I knew
she was “mooning” over her special
young man, and so I said:
“You make me think of the good
old summer time and Hennybark
Park. The roily-coaster there plays
that air.’’
That got her completely, for her
“company’’ constantly takes her to
that park,
“Sure they play it; that’s where
I learned it,” she grinned.
Then I approached the dangerous 1
subject of white apron and white cap,
and although she looked grlpuchy, ]
she said she would, especially when |
I went into a lengthy description of
how elegant Hard was. She was
curious to see him at close range.
Sometimes, when I’ve managed to
get Sarah to do something she really
has no desire to do, I fell that when

States, Washington will make a grave

of St. James, as ambassador. Won’t

THE AMERICUS TIMES-RECORDER
sented to the King ami Queen! I’ll :
flirt tremendously with na of those I
lords and dukes. ’’ey’ll be quite ’
worth while!
But coming back to Emmy and me,
as soon as Sarah had let Hard and
the strange young man in, she tip
toed up the stairs as gently as a
mouse—when she does consent to do
anything she does it just right al-
handed me two cards.
One bore the name, Howard Allen
Forsythe, and the other, Theodore
Alonzo Tipton.
I passed them over to Emmy as she
read them quickly, and exclaimed: i
“Great guns! Theodore Alonzo
Tipton—who ever heard of such a
name!”
1 gigled, and teased: “Your fate,
indeed, Emmy. Mrs. Theodore Alon- i
zo Tipton.”
“I’d rather be Cunningham until i
my dying day,” she said as we start
ed toward the sitting room.
Hard setpped forward and shook
hands, first with me, and then with I
Emmy. Then he presented the |
ger.
“Miss Blair and Miss Cunningham,
I want you to meet Mr. Tipton, a
college ‘chump,’ with emphasis on
the ‘chump,’’ at which we all four
laughed. “He’s visiting me from the
West.”
And Theodore Alonzo Tipton, tall,
very slim, bronze as an Indian with
big strong features and large white
teeth—the’sort which 1 always think
i the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood
must have had when he said: “I’ll
eat you all up.”
! Emmy and I interchanged a glance
which meant, approval of him, and
the four of us, Hard and I in ad
vance, went out to the car. Mamma
came to the door and waved us good
bye.
“You have an awfully jolly moth
er Yolande,” he complimented, as we
arranged ourselves in the front seat.
The others two were in the rear, and
began a perfect barracade of jollying
immediately. You can always de
pend upon Emmy having something
to say to a new man, and that is a
huge satisfaction when you have in
troduced him, or been the reason of
his meeting her.
I forgot to say, Florence Purdy and
her mother were on their front porch,
gaping like hawks.
“Hope the Purdy’s saw us,” said
Emmy, as we spun down the street.
“They didn't miss much, I’ll ad
mit,” I laughed. “Mrs. Purdy will
be over at our house later on this
evening to find out where we are go
ing.”
“I’d move from a neighborhood
with such people in it,” advised
Emmy.
“Oh, no, you wouldn’t,” I answer
ed. “Uncle Jim says we'd find the
Purdy’s anywhere. They're part of
life.”
“That’s great-—got a real edge on
it,” chimed in Mr. Tipton. “Who’s
