Rubber Goods
!n the purchase of Rubber Goods, if you are to get 100
cents for your dollar, see that the stock is FRESH—NEW
You would not buy an old box of candies, nor old butter.
It is just as essential that your Rubber Goods be fresh, for
Rubber deteriorates with age. An old Hot Water Bag, laid
one side for a long time, is bound to crack, to weaken in the
seams. Rubber rots easily.
Our stock is new; it is purchased from those manufacturers
who have the reputation of making only the very best that
can be made. Satisfaction goes with every

Quality Goes Clear Through
Touring Car »,
$985 LL
The salient characteristics of the
Dort can be summed up in three sen-
. fences.
First, it is a car that needs'service
attention but very infrequently.
®»R; Sr*
Second, when it does seem desirable
to give the Dort a “going over” you
can do it yourself easily, quickly, and
inexpensively because of the marked
simplicity and accessibility of Dort
construction.
Third, its mileage per set of tires,
gallon of gasoline, and quart of oil is
perceptibly higher than common.

THfc STORY OF HER LIFE AND
LOVES.
CHAPTER XXXIII.
A Queen Qaint Roadhouse.
We had a perfectly scrumptuous I
ride out to the roadhouse where we
were to have our dinner. The day
was positively superb, and there is no
time out of the twenty-four hours
so grand as a little past 6 o’clock
p.m. The sun was going down behind
the hills and was leaving behind it the
! most gorgeous tints of amber and
henna and any quantities of little
white fleecy clouds like clean white
lace-edged petticoats peeping from
under fashionable gowns at some late
afternoon reception, fitted daintily
on the surface.
Th road was smooth as the ocean
must be about sundown, and we went
along as if there was nothing in life
but enjoyment. Oh, it was great to
be there, and to have friends who
asked you to go places. I couldn't

| and it had to show itself. He and I
• didn’t do so very much talking, as
a man who is driving his car majesti
cally and swiftly always awes me.
< But Emmy and Mr. Tipton were get
' ting on famously. They chatted like
i magpies and laughed every two or
I three minutes.
After driving miles upon miles we
, arrived at the quaintest old hotel,
with a stone base and a wooden up
per part.- The boards on the second
story were put on straight up and
down and looked as if they might
have been “carpentered" by the own
er himself. There was a long porch
at the front, rudely made, too, and
a hen was clucking on a chair right
at the door.
A shepherd dog came to greet us.
Otherwise there was no life about
the place.
“It’s a queer bld hole here” ex
plained Hard. “I’ve been coming
here since I was a child, and when
you order in advance like I have done,
you get more eats than will feed six
farm hands after threshing all day.
It’s not anything like so well known
as those places on the highway, the
ones you girls know about; but it’s
better grub, I’ll say.”
As we got out to the door, a long,
lank man swung it open, and smiled
apathetically at Hard, and one at a
time, we filed into the funniest room.
It smelled musty, and the carpet had

the braid making it Keing the sort
Mamma uses for draw-strings in our
everyday underclothing. There was
a picture of McKinley above the
piano, and embossed on the black
frame was: “Our Martyred Presi

I sat on a chair which had been
made out of a spinning wheel and
Emmy and Mr. Tipton sat on a horse
hair sofa. Hard stood, and after
awhile went over to gaze at some
thing which was framed in a very
wide and very deep frame. I joined
I him; so did Emmy and Mr. Tipton. %
“What is it, anyway?” I queried,
looking at a large oblong piece of
nickle, with two doves at each end,
and in the center engraved:
“John Arbrecht, At Rest.
Born: Feb. 18, 1848.
Died: April 11, 1911.
“It’s the plate from John Ar
brecht’s coffin,” explained Hard.
“The family took it off before he was
buried, and have had it framed. I
remember John Arbrecht well. I
used to see him when I was a little
fellow. He looked exactly like his
son who let us in. There’s his pic
ture along with Mrs. Arbrecht when
they were first married, and there’s
the man who let us in, with his wife;
and those two other men framed
with their wi”2S, are two other sons.
Can you tell them apart?”
And there the eight of the Ar
brecht’s were, if you please, hang
ing on the wall. .Enlarged photo-
