DEATHS j
MRS. E. C. BLACK.
News has been received at her
old home here of the death in Atlan
ta Thursday of Mrs. Edwin Cunning
ham Black. Mrs. Black is survived
by her husband, of that city, and a
son, Major L. D. Black, of Baltimore,
one daughter, Mrs. B. C. Cothren, of
North Carolina.
Mrs. Black was well known here

Your Farm Needed a Ditcher
Before It Needed a Plow
WHY YOU SHOULD DITCH
Ditching is the surest method by which level, flat or low land is
drained and it is only when such land is drained that it may be
cultivated with the greatest profit.
A good system of ditches takes care of the surplus water, there
by preventing it from becoming soaked and sour. Proper drainage
will allow the soil to retain just the right amount of moisture.
Land properly drained produces greatest crops, for it is 10 to 14
degrees warmer than wet land; germination is quicker and growth
is more rapid and much stronger. Good drainage results in a loose,
porous soil, which is more easily cultivated and in which plant
life will flourish because plant roots will grow deeper and thereby
withstand drought, while at the same time they will tap new
sources of plant food.
Quick Germination Means Earlier Crops
And Beats The Bell Weevil
WHY YOU SHOULD TERRACE
Terracing is to hillsides and rolling land, what ditching is to the
flat, low country. It is just as necessary and for the same rea
son. It is even more necessary because without these terraces
hillsides will wash so that they are worthless and unfit for culti
vation.

tility, Reduces Fertilizer Bills
