Standard Oil king has found, its way
into his political treasury; and not a

Connecticut yielded to Massachu- j
setts and Speaker Gillette nominated;
Governor Coolidge.
Calls Coolidge The Man
Characterizing Governor Calvin :
Coolidge, of Massachusetts, as a man
who believes that obedience to law
is liberty and that this is a govern- j
ment of laws and not of men. Con
gressman Frederick H. GiUtett, of
Massachusetts, placed the name of
the governor of his state in nomina
tion. ,j
Speaker Gillett told the Republican ;
delegates that the placing of such a |
man as Governor Coolidge in the pres- i
idential chair would clear the murky J
atmosphere of Washington like a bra-'
cing northern breeze. “He is as pa- ,
tient as Lincoln,” Congressman Gil- I
lett said, “silent as Grant, diplomatic i
as McKinley, with, .the political in- |
stinct of Roosevelt.’’
Congressman Gillett said in part:
“A year ago hardly a man outside
of New England knew who was gov
ernor of Massachusetts. Today every
man and woman in this vast audience,
every lover of ordered liberty in the
United States, knows and rejoices
that the governor of Massachusetts is
Calvin Coolidge.
“Opportunity—whick knocks once
at every man’s door —came to him |
and found him waiting for her sum
mons, calm, courageous, resolute to
do his duty though the heavens fall.
And he did it so well, he met his
great opportunity with so masterful a ’
spirit as to send a thrill of admiration ;
through every community in the land '
and every honest man felt safer be
cause there was such a governor as
Coolidge. ,
“Isn’t that the type of man you ;
want for president today? Nominate
him and you rally behind him that !
underlying devotion to our public se- i
curity that faith in our Republican j
institutions that which when once ;
aroused is overpowering and irre- ’
sistable. He is supported by no special '
class or interest, but he attracts all i
those who believe that ‘obedience to
law is liberty,' who wish this to be ‘a i
government of laws and not of men.” j
Florida yielded to North Carolina'
and former Senator Butler nominat-i
ed Judge Pritchard.
Harding’s Name Submitted
Assailing the present administra
tion as an oligarchy in which the few
rule the many and telling his hearers
that the country faces a problem more
serious than those faced by Washing- s
ton or Lincoln, Frank B. Willis, for
mer governor of Ohio placed the 1
' name of Senator Warren G. Harding ’
in nomination.
Former Governor Willis recited i
briefly Senator Harding’s record in
the Senate and promised that if nom
inated he would be elected.
He charged that production had'
been hamnered by the so-called gov
ernment regulations and announced
that the Republican party had been
called upon to rescue the country and
save American institutions. Mr Wil-I
ns said, among other things:
William McKinley was a great
president because he understood the 1
viewpoint of congress and knew how
to co-operate with the legislative de
partment of the government. We have
had enough one-man government. It i

have to sail tempestuous seas before

we do safe and sane seamanship by a

the nominee of this convention will
be inaugurated president March 4

Feels Like a Brand New Man.
“If there was ever a time in my
life when I felt better than I do now
I don’t remember it,” said Michael
McCrone. a well known resident of
541 South Clay street, Louisville, Ky.
“I have not only gotten rid of a
case of stomach trouble and catarrh
of the head that made my life miser
able for five years, but I actually
weigh twenty-three pounds more than
I did the day I began taking Tanlac.
I could not eat anything except very
light food but what gas would form
and keep me feeling sick at the stom
ach for hours. I had the worst sort
of pains in my left side, and at night
especially the catarrh in my head

caused me so much trouble I could
i get but little rest. I could scarcely
! breathe lying down and it was often
almost day before I got any sleep at
all. I lost thirty pounds in weight and
j had very little strength and was in
I such a bad fix that I had to stay at
i home from work for days at a time.
“While looking over the paper one
evening I ran across a testimonial for
Tanlac that described my case so well
that I made up my mind to try it.
■ After I had finished my third bottle I
: was feeling like a brand new man.
: My catarrh was gone, my head felt
clear, my stomach stopped troubling
me and I could lie down at night and
: sleep like a child. I can now eat such
I things as meats and cabbage—in fact
1 just anything I want and never feel
a touch of indigestion. I have never
felt better in my life than I do now,
and when I recommend Tanlac to my
friends its easy for them to see the
change that has taken place in my
condition.’’
Tanlac is sold in Americus by the
Planters Seed & Drug Co., and in
Sumter by Ewing Mercantile Co.
