BETTER EXHIBITS
AT FAIR CERTAIN
Fine Grain to Offer Fea
ture —Pig Clubs to
Compete
Preparations for the Sumter coun-j
ty fair, which will be held this fall
at the Third District fa : r grounds at j
the Aggie college here, are already j
under way, according to George O. i
Marshall, county farm demonstra- '
tion agent. Marshall says a num-;
her of Sumter farmers who made ex
ceptionally fine grain crops have!
save selected bunches of wheat, oats,
rye and barley, which they plan to j
put on exhibition, and ho is urging
others to set aside portions of their j
grain crops for exhibit at the fair.
The pig club exhibit at the fair,
Marshall says, will surpass that of'
last year, as the boys wil have more!
time in which to prepare for the dis-1
play of their products. These clubs i
have not yet been completely organ-]
ized, and there is time remaining in ,
which boys who will purchase pure
bred pigs may enter the various con
tests. Prizes will be offered this
year for the best specimens of dif
ferent breeds, Marshall says, and this
feature, it is expected, will stimulate
interest in the exhibition. Last year
most of the big prizes were captured
by Durocs, which appear to be the
best adapted for this climate and
soil conditions, but several ”ig club
boys this year will show Hampshires,
Berkshires and Poland Chinas, and
these are sure to capture first prizes
under the new distribution arrange
ment.

Finds Weevils Thrive
Best in Red-Soil Fields
G. W. Ethridge, a prominent far
mer firing about eight miles out on
the Lamar road, has had an unusual
experience this year with boll wee
vil infestation. Notwithstanding he
had a quantity of old lumber and
rubbish piled near his home house,
none of his fields near this have been
as heavily infested as have other
“patches’ where the weevils appear
to have come from nearby woods.
In one place, particularly, it is no
ticeable that the weevils infest a
field only where the character # of
the soil has a reddish tinge, the ’in
festation stopping almost abruptly
where the soil changes from this red
dish appearance to a grayish color.
He has been picking over this par
ticular “patch” with especial care,
giving attention to developments
there, and is convinced from his ob
servations that the character of the
soil has something, at least, to do
with the weevil infestation. He be
lieves that the red soil being more
likely to form into “clods,” furnishes
hiding places for those weevils which
are knocked off by plows passing
through the field, and that they are
enabled to burrow out, because of
these clods, while in the Tayish soil
the earth is more finely powdered by
plowing, with the result that wee
vils once knpeked off, are soon turn
ed under by the plow and die before
they are able to burrow out.

As Well As Men

?
’ Happy, bright, alert —vigorous and
vivacious—a good clear skin; a nat
ural, rosy complexion and freedom
from illness are assured only by
clean, healthy blood. If only every
woman and likewise every man could
realize the wonders of the morning
inside bath, what a gratifying change
would take place.
Instead of the thousands of sickly,
anaemic-looking men, women and
girls with pasty or muddy complex
ions; instead of the multitudes of
“nerve wrecks,” “rundowns,” “brain
fags” and pessimists we should see a
virile, optimistic throng of rosy
cheeked people everywhere.
An inside bath is had by drinking,
each morning before breakfast, a
glass of real hot water with a tea
spoonful of limestone phosphate in it
to wash from the stomach, liver, kid
neys and ten yards of bowels the pre
vious day’s indigestible waste, sour
fermentations and poisons, thus
cleansing, sweetening and freshening
the entire alimentary canal before
putting more food into the stomach.
Those subject to sick headache, bil
iousness, nasty breath, rheumatism,
colds; and particulary those who have
a pallid, sallow complexion and who
are constipated very often, are
urged to obtain a quarter pound of
limestone phosphate at the drug store
which will cost but a trifle but is
sufficient to demonstrate the quick
and remarkable change In both health
and appearance awaiting those who
practice internal sanitation. We must
remember that inside cleanliness is
more important than outside, be
cause the skin does not absorb impur
ities to contaminate the blood, while
the pores in the thirty feet of bowels
do.'
