‘MIXED BATHING’
MAY BE BANNED
Senate Bill Also Would
Outlaw Young Girls
' Spooning
ATLANTA, July 21.—The Geor
gia senate has under consideration a
bill to stop “mixed” bathing and
put more clothes on nymphs. Its
author is Senator Wilkinson, of the
• Forty-ninth district. There are two
bills. One is against the two sexes
intermingling in aquatic diversion in
anything from a pond to an ocean.
The other is for the protection of
feminine juvenile character; that is
to say, character from thirteen to
sixteen years old; to prevent the
girls of that age from “keeping’com
pany,” except with the written con
sent of parents or guardians.
The character protection bill evi
dently regards the potential evils of
spooning in the young as less than
those of mingling in creeks, oceans,
pools, ponds and so on. The penal
ties provide fines of from SSO to
SI,OOO and the same limit of impris
onment —up to six months—for “any
male soliciting or obtaining the pri
vate company or association of any
girl in this state between the a»os
of 13 and 16 without the written
consent of the girl’s guardian or
father and mother.”
Mr. Wilkinson appears to have
been direfully scandalized at some
time and place by the bathing ap
parel of the sexes, or perhaps the
shortage of the same. His bathing
bill considers that matter fully; at
least as fully as suppositiously scanty
bathing apparel can be considered.
“From armpits to the knees,” de
clares Mr. Wilkinson modestly, and
prescribes further that the sexes
shall be separated by ropes, and that
they shall not enter or leave tte
water within 100 yards of each other,
and that the men shall have mascu
line life guards and the women femi
nine life guards.

THE BOOK OF ANN.
I Select Their Party Dretse* for
Midget and Corinne.
Daddy Lorimer was rather disap
pointed in Ann’s guests, I decided.,
I wasn’t exactly sure what he ex
pected Midget and Corinne (Jaryl
to be like, but it seemed to me that
he was really grieved because the
famous movie vamp didn’t pay the
least attention to him other than that
required of a well-mannered guest.
And Midget couldn’t give any ex
hibitions of her art because the pool
in the Lorimer park was too shallow.
Seeing the two actresses daily gave
me a brand new idea about the work
of women in their profession. The
best of them work harder than
envious and aspiring young girls sus
pect.
Daddy Lorimer had a long talk
with Mrs. Best about taking over the
decorating business he had bought
from Ives, and then he went off to
his fishing club for the week-end.
Midget came running over to my
house the morning of the luncheon.
“You you’re human. Mrs. Lori
mer!” she exclaimed as she dropped
into a piazza swing. “I—l’m not
afraid of you! So please tell me
what to wear at Ann’s luncheon, to
day.”
“If I’m human, call me Jane!” I
said. “Everybody does!”
Midget threw both arms about my
neck and kissed me impulsively.
“You’re a dear! I just love you!”
she whispered.
I liked her tremendously for
yielding to her natural impulse. Re
straint is undoubtedly characteris
tic of a highly civilized person, and
it ought to be applied to hysteria
and tears, but I sometimes think that
most civilized persons are too re
served in displaying their affection,
and admiration and approval.
“What am I to wear?” Midget
asked again. "I’m so afraid of put
ting on the wrong things. And I’d
like to be just right when I’m in
vited to meet a girl like Deborah
Burns. I’m awfully afraid of say
ing—«and doing—the wrong thing,
too.”
“Midget, dear, be yourself. Say
what you think! Then you’ll be per
fectly all right. The girls who are
graduated from the most expensive
private schools in this country, my
dear, have the simplest manners and
the most unaffected speech.”
Midget sighed as though a burden
had been taken from her mind.
“As for your frock, wear the dain
tiest white dress you possess,” I
suggested. “Something not too re
vealing as to the neck, nor too ab- ]
breviated as to the sleeves.”
“I’ve a perfectly lovely frilled or
gandy—with a sash of the same!”
Midget exclaimed. “And the sweet
est trimmings of little flowers—all
made of colored organdy in deli
cate pastel shades! Will that be
good enough?”
“Simply exquisite!” I answered.
“I’m going to bring Corinne over
here,” said Midget. “I think she
needs advice. She’s been planning
to put on one of her most striking
costumes—all white crystal beads,
with a cape of rose-colored taffeta

“For goodness sake, stop her, Mid

Presently Midget returned escort

talk about her her dress and relieved
because she could select a violet or
gandy, with hat, hose and shoes, all
of a color.
I had seen the dress it was a
violent violet, but still an artistic
creation.
But she wouldn’t accept Midget’s

“Yes and they wear plainer

How to Treat
A Torpid Liver
The liver is the largest and most
important organ in the body, and
when the liver refuses to act, it causes
constipation, biliousness, headaches,
indigestion, gas, sour stomach, bad
breath, dysentery, diarrhoea, pains in
back and under shoulder blades and
under ribs on right side. These symp
toms lead to colds, influenza or other
serious troubles unless corrected im
mediately.
An inactive liver places an extra
burden on the kidneys, which over
taxes them and causes the blood to
absorb and carry into the system the
impurities that the liver and kidneys
have failed to eliminate.
When you treat the liver alone, you
treat only a third of your trouble, and
' that is why you have to take purga
tives every few nights. Calomel or
other ordinary laxatives do not go far
enough. If you would treat your kid
neys and blood while treating the liver
you would put your entire system in
order and frequent purgatives would
then be unnecessary.
Dr. W. L. Hitchcock many years
ago recognized these important facts,
and after much study and research,
compounded what is now known as
Dr. Hitchcock’s Liver, Kidney and
Blood Powders, three medicines com
bined in one. This was the Doctor’s
favorite prescription for many years,;
being used by his patients with
marked success. It is a harmless veg
etable remedy, that will not make you
sick, and you may eat anything you
like while taking it.
Get a large tin box from your drug
gist or dealer for 25c, under his per
sonal guarantee that it will give re
lief, tone up the liver, stimulate the
kidneys to healthy action and thereby
purify the blood. If your dealer win
not supply you, it will be mailed direct
by Hitchcock Medicine Co., Atlanta,
Ga., upon receipt of prices— (adv.)
