BUCHANAN DAIRY
Purchases Herd and
Equipment Take
Charge Monday
Mrs. R. W. Buchanan sold yester
day to W. R. Hansford the entire
herd and dairy equipment of the Buc
hanan dairy here, and after Monday
morning will retire from the milk
business in Americus. Her husband
who died a few days ago, was en
gaged in dairying here twelve years,
and in that time built up an exten
sive business and this will be taken
over by Mr. Hansford, who will be
gin his first deliveries to the Buchan
an customers Monday afternoon.
Mr. Hansford will conduct the dai
ry business from his fine farm, three
miles out of Americus on the Smith
ville road, where he already has a
modern dairy equipment to which the
Buchanan equinment will be added.
He announces that he will have am
ple capacity to supply all of the for
mer Buchanan customers, and will
extend the same countesies and first
class service furnished by Mr. Buch
anan, who was regarded as one of
the best dairymen ever engaged in
the business here.
The consideration of the deal was
not stated.

Miss Jessie Weaver, of Monroe,
who has been the guest of Miss La
erne Thomas, on Taylor street, re
turned yesterday to her home in Mon

joyed a rest last summer in this place,
that she decided to return again this
summer. Later she plans a visit to

Little Hugh Parker, who has been
critically ill for the past four weeks,
is improving slowly. He is able to
be about in the room during some
portion of the day, and his complete
recovery is anticipated at an early
date.
The regular monthly missionary
program will be given at the Sunday
school hour at the Presbyterian
church today.
Mrs. D. Owens, of Albany, is vis
iting her sister, Mrs. W. E. Mitchell,
at her home on West Church street,
and will be here for some time.
Gordon Howell left yesterday for
Moultrie, where he will spend today

The Young Peoples’ Missionary so
ciety of the First Methodist church
will meet Sunday at 2:30 p. m. A
cordial invitation is extended to new
members and visitors, and full at
tendance is desired.

Heard, of Vienna; Mrs. Emma Grace,
of Macon, and Mrs. George Rostell,
of Birmingham, Ala., spent Saturday
with Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Crockett on
the way to Moultrie.
Judge and Mrs. W. M. George, of
Atlanta, and two sons, Heard and
Marcus, are spending today with Mr.
and Mrs. A. C. Crockett. Judge
George leaves tonight for Atlanta,
but Mrs. George and her two sons

Mrs. J. A. Davenport, her mother,

! tain City, Ga., where they will spend

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reed, of Jack
sonville, who are spending some time
in Americus, went up to Montezuma
yesterday on a brief visit to friends.

Wilton Thomas Shipp, young
adopted son of J. E. D. Shipp, who
has .been ill for some tome at the
Americus hospital, has recovered suf
ficiently to be moved to the Shipp
residence on the Plains road.
J. J. Wilson, of Leslie, was a well
known visitor here yesterday.
W. A. Dodson has returned from
Atlanta, where he has been attending
the sessions of the Legislature.
Stephen Pace, one of Sumter’s rep
resentatives in the Legislature, is
spending the week-end at home, be
ing registered at the Windsor.
Six carloads of watermelons were
shipped last week from New Point,
and it is stated an equal number of
cars will be shipped from there this
week.
Z. H. Gilreath, who is connected
with the Macon city water depart
ment, spent Saturday here at the
home of his brother-in-law, City Mar
shal Pouncey.
B. A. Bradley, a well known resi
dent of the Fifteenth district, was a
business visitor here yesterday.
M. L. Lackey, living 6 miles out
of Americus, continues seriously ill
at his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Poole an
nounce the birth of a son July 24, at
their home, 531 Harrold avenue.
Mrs. M. S. Spivey left Friday
night for Irvin, Ky., to visit her son,
W. D. Spivey, at his home there.

PLAINS, July 24—One of the
most original parties of the season
was given last week at the home of
Mrs. A. Dodson. The occasion was the
70th birthday of Mrs. Dodson and
the party was given by Mrs. J. H.
Williams, her daughter, Mrs. Hender
son Dodson, and Mrs. Campbell Dod
son, her daughters-in-law and was a
surprise. Twenty of her life-long
friends were invited.
On entering each guest was given
a card on which to write a good wish
and these were collected and put on
a little ivory ring and presented to
Mrs. Dodson. A beautiful birthday
cake with many presents from the
guests were placed on a table and as
Mrs. Dodson opened each one, little
Sarah Dodson, her granddaughter,
stood by her side and recited in her
sweet childish voice, “It’s Grandmoth
er’s Birthday.” After this there was
an unique contest, the questions cen
tering around Mrs. Dodson’s past life.
