HOME AFTER DELIGHTFUL
TRIP IN THE NORTH
Mrs. E. L. Gammage and children
returned to Americus yesterday after
having spent six weeks >• Pittsburg as
the guest ,f her sister, Mrs. R. F.
Wood, at her suburban home During
the vacation period Mrs. Gammage
and her sister visited Niagara "alls,
spending one night at this point*:n
order to view this wondrous work of
nature by moonlight. Toronto. Can
ada. was visited for a week, and Buf
falo, as well as many special scenic
points along the northern route. Re
turning, a week was spent in Wash
ington. where Mr. Gammage met
them and together the historic points
in and about the capital city were
visited. The church in which George
Washington worshipped many dec
ades ago was viewed, and the sight
of ths pews and pulpit just as they
were arranged three hundred years
apo. awed and inspired the sightseers.
His beautiful home at Mount Vernon
was visited, and along the walks and
avenues which the Father of His
Country planned and perfected, the
tourists went, and marveled at the
beautiful flowers and shrubbery. The
Smithsonian Institute also was visit
ed. The children*were overcome by
the sight of the millions of dollars in
the great United States treasury,
and were told how our currency is
made, and even the laundering of the
paper money was graphically explain
ed to them.

MISSION STUDY CLASS
TO HAVE LAST MEETING
The Misison Study class of Cen
tral Baptist church will hold its last
meeting in that church next Monday
afternoon at the usual hours from 'I
to 5. Every woman who enlisted in
the beginning of the study
whether or not she has attended

RALLY DAY FOR LUCY COBB
FIRST SATURDAY IN OCTOBER.
A Lucy Cobb Rally Day will be
launched throughout the state on
Saturday, October 2, and many Geor
gians will be present on that day for
the exercises to be held in this fa
mous Athens institution of learning.
Lucy Cobb is very popular in Am
ericus, and a number of friends and
former students of this college are
planning to go to Athens in October
to meet the alumnae. The complete
plans have not as yet been made, but
it is the purpose at this time of the
various committees to invite the men
of the state who attended the Uni
vi rsity of Georgia to meet with the
women of the enterprise.

Miss Daisy Alston has accepted a
position with Mrs. A. C. Richardson,
Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Manghan who
have been visiting relatives here for
the past few weeks left Sunday for
their home in Tenneville.
W. W. Yates, of Temple, has pur
chased the Hobbs home, formerly
known as the Lloyd home and will |
move his family here at an early ,
date.
Miss Evie Macon arrived Saturday
to take up her work as milliner with |

Baptizing services were held at the I
Christian church Sunday morning ,
when the candidates for baptism re
ceived during the Lightbourne-Davis j
revival were baptized.
Thursday a large crowd of High I
school pupils met at the home of
Mrs. H. C. Turner for a spend- the
day party which was given by her i
daughter, Elizabeth. Rook was play- j
ed in the morning and lemonade
served before lunch. Dinner was serv
ed in the yard which was beautifully
decorated with ferns. Games were
played after dinner and at a late hour
in the afternoon the guests departed
for home. Those present were: Misses
Mamie Colbert, Marie Norris. Susie
Bartlett, Bessie Dudley, Carrie Fran
ces Ponder, Mary Chappell, Bessie
Chappell, Ella Suddarth. Mary Boone

The many friends of W. H. Phil
lips are glad to know that he is im
proving.
Mary Martha Wells, who has been
visiting her aunt, Mrs. G. A. Sapp,
has returned home.

MRS. J. C. JOINER.
Mrs. Anne Elizabeth Joiner, wid
ow of the late J. C. Joiner, a former
I merchant of Americus, died this
morning at her home at 806 Jackson
I avenue after an illness of several
I months. She was 71 years of age.
Her husband preceded her to the
grave nine years ago.
Mrs. Joiner had long been a de
voted and devout member of the
First Baptist church, of Americus.
She is survived by the following rela
tives: One daughter, Mrs. Emma
Joiner; one son, J. C. Joiner, Jr.;
one brother, D. A. Small, of Atlanta;
one granddaughter, Mrs. A. A. Mil
ler, of Atlanta, and several nieces
and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the
residence Saturday mowing at 10:30
o’clock, conducted by Carl W.
Minor, her pastor, with interment in
Oak Grove cemetery.

of the Grand Lodge of the Grand
Order of St. James, for a term of
twenty years with the privilege of
renewal, with its principal office and
place of business in the City of
Americus, Sumter County, Ga.

That the object of said corpora
tion was to care for its sick, bury its
dead, promote morality, education
and the general interest of society.
Its objects being entirely eleemo
synary, and having no subscribed or
paid in capital stock.
That the usual privileges, rights
and authority incident to such cor
porations were included in the char
ter so granted petitioners.
That the term for which said char
ter was granted will expire on Sep
tember 29, proximo. That said or
ganization is prosperous and has
proven to be helpful and beneficial to
its members, and to society gener
ally.
Wherefore petitioners pray the
court to grant an order renewing and
continuing its said charter for a like
period of twenty years from Septem
ber 29, 1920, with all rights, privil
eges, and authority, and for the same
purpose, and with its head offices at
the same place as out in the original
petition, and order incorporating the
Grand Lodge of the Grand United
Order of St. James.

(202) containing two hundred two
and one-half acres (202 1-2) acres,
more or less, also eighty (80) acres

lands lying and being in one body in
the 26th district of Sumter county,
Georgia, and containing in the ag
gregate two hundred eighty-two and
one-half (282 1-2) acres, more or
less.
The reason for desiring to sell said
land is that the same is unprofitable
and a charge and expense upon my
self as guardian, as aforesaid, does
not yield any income, the same hav
ing lain out for the years 1919 and
1920; on account of my inability to
rent the same, and the same not
yielding any income to my said wards
it is desired to reinvest the proceeds
of the sale of same in the following
property, to-wit: A one-third undi
vided interest in whole lot of land
No. 235, also 19 1-2 acres being in
the shape of a triangle off of the
southeast corner of Number two hun
dred thirty-four (234). All of said
land situate, lying and being in the
26th district of Sumter county, Ga.
The said wards now owning an one
third undivided interest, each in the
property last above described, it is
desired to invest the proceeds c* the
sale of the property first above de
scribed in an one-third undivided
interest owned by myself in said :
lands, thus placing the title to the
whole tract in my said wards, mak
ing it more convenient for me to look
after and attend to and said property
sought to be invested in will be of :
more value and yield more income to
said wards than the property sought

. First. Petitioners together with
their associates desire to be incor
porated under the name of the Sum
ter County Fair Association, for a
period of twenty (20) years with the
right of renewal at the expiration of
thereof.
Second. The object of. said cor
poration is to promote and encour
age the growing and production of,
all agricultural and horticultural
products as well as live stock etc
to arrange for proper exhibition of
all such products by holding fairs
and other like gatherings, at -uCh
time and places as it may determine;
and for the expense, upkeep and
mainteance to charge gate receipts,
entry fees; sell concessions, receive
donations and to otherwise legitimate
ly provide funds for such purposes
and for such purposes only, do peti
tioners desire the right to be incor
porated and not for pecuniary gain
and profit to its stockholders.
Third. The principal office and
place of business will be in the City
of Americus, said state and county.
Fourth. The capitalstock of said
corporation shall be Five Thousand
($5,000.00) dollars divided into
shares of Fifty ($50.00) dollars each
all of which capital stock has been
actually subscribed and paid in.
Fifth. Petitioners desire the right
however, when at any regular or call
meeting for such purpose, by a ma
jority vote of the stock to increase
its capital stock to the sum of Twenty
Five Thousand ($25,000.00) dollars,
and to sell the same for the purpose
of providing more money for the pur
pose of enlarging and improving such
properties as it may own for the pur
poses herein above stated.
Sixth. Petitioners desire for said
corporation to buy and own real es
tate for such purposes to have a cor- g' |
porate seal, sue and be sued, plead * "
and be impleaded, to adopt a con
stitution and by-laws, and provide
therein for the necessary officers and
board of directors and to do and
perform any and all other acts usual
and incident to corporations of like
kind.
