Mr. Walker said:
“Just a final word to my friends:
I am absolutely confident of success
Wednesday. South Georgia as a whole
is overwhelmingly for me. Southwest
Georgia is practically solid for me;
Ex-Senator Hardwick may possibly
carry three counties in that section,
no more, though my friends are hard
at work in two of these. In South
east Georgia ex-Senator Hardwick
will carry not more than six coun

COTTON GROWERS
TO SEE MEADE
To Inspect 600-Acre
Field—Lint Worth $1
* Pound
ATHENS. Sept. 6—Six hundred
i acres of Meade cotton, the lint of
which was worth $1 a pound last year
will be inspected on September 9,
when farmers, ginners and spinners
of Georgfiia and other southeastern
states gather on the Artesia Farms,
at Artesia, Ga., near Sylvester.
Since the coihing of the boll wee
vil and the passing of Sea Island cot
ton, Meade cotton, with a staple that
measures from 1 1-2 to 1 3-4 inches,
has been introduced into Georgia
and grown successfully. It grows well
all over the state. It is reported that
Hurt Bros., at White, Ga., have 300
acres growing this year. This new
cotton must be ginned on the Sea
Island roller gin.
There is a tremendous demand for
the long staple cotton by inanufactur
-1 ers of superior automobile and truck
tires. It has been found to add great
ly to their strength and durability.
At the Artesia meeting addresses
will be made by C. B. Doyle and G.
S. Meloy. of the United States De
partment of Agriculture, by J. W.
Williams, of Statesboro, the first
planter of Meade cotton in Georgia,
; by Mr. Hjte, by Col. Gordon, of Gor
