CHYCOURTTO
OPENMONDAY
Light Criminal Docket
Assigned For Second
Week
Criminal cases' for Monday and
Tuesday of the second week of the
City Court of Americus were as
signed yesterday by Judge Harper,
k who will open the September term
of his court with the trying of civil
business by jury tomorrow. The
civil docket is fairly heavy, but the
criminal cases are less numerous than
in times past.
The court room, which has been
undergoing repair and renovation,
has not been entirely completed, but
the workmen will vacate for the
term of court and apply themselves
elsewhere about the building. Most
of the court room interior work has
been finished, the walls and ceiling,
having been newly painted, and the
woodwork and seats entirely resur
faced.
Following is the civil calendar:

THE AMERICUS TIMES-RECORDER
U. S. COURT TAKES
LIQUOR CAR CASE
Federal Court Takes
Over Case Maynard
Filed In Albany
ALBANY’, Sept. 18.—Judge Bev
erly D. Evans, of the U. S. pistrict
Court, has signed an order, a copy
’of which was received by Deputy
Clerk George F. White yesterday, or
dering all records in the damage suit
case of Joe S. Burgin against Lucius
Harvey,. G. W. Saye and James A.
Fort, filed in the City Court of Al
bany July 22, transferred to the
United States court.
Mr. Harvey is sheriff of Sumter
county; Mr. Fort, federal prohibition
commissioner of Georgia, and Mr.
Saye is a federal prohibition agent
operating in this section. These of
ficers seized a car which they claim
ed belong to R. D. Bivins, of Cusseta,
because of its alleged use in trans
porting liquor. Burgin claims that
the car is his and has filed suit for
damages.
The attorney who brought the suit
against Sheriff Harvey and the oth
ers is R. L. Maynard, Sumter coun
ty attorney. The fact that it us
ually fall to the county attorney to
defnd county officers in case their of
fical acts are attacked in court, and
the fact that the case was brought
in the Albany City Court, instead of
in the Americus City Court, in whose
jurisdiction the seizure took place
and in which the leading principal,
the sheriff resides, are matters of
comment in local legal circles, be
cause of their unusualness.

made Floppy cross, but finally he
moved on again.
But he hadn’t gone more than an
inch or two until he stopped again.
“My goodness,” he exclaimed, “there
is another!” And there were more
sounds of nibbling and gulping which
provoked Flop beyond words. You
see the little mouse was behind Muff,
and he couldn’t get out into daylight
(to streak over to the corn-patch)
because a heavy stone was over the
place just where Muff had stopped.

IF you inspect the chassis of a Paige “Glenbrook,” you
will notice an unusually large pair of rear springs.
They are of the semhelliptic type and measure 6i%
inches.
It is impressive just to inspect these springs, but a
ride in the car will prove a revelation. Then, you will
understand why the entire country is talking about
the easy riding qualities of this five passenger model.
If you know of a really bad stretch ot road, ride it
with the “Glenbrook”—and draw your own conclusions.

“Goodness alive, go on!” shoved

“Oh, let me alone!” grumbled
Muff. “Can’t yod see I’m having

“See!” snorted Flop. “I can’t see

as hungry as you are.”
“Well, if you’re hungry, you’re!
welcome to all the worms you can

“Worms!” cried Flop. “Ugh!
Who’d eat worms?”
“I do,” answered Muff quite net

me, they are for you, I’m sure.”
“Well, they’re not. I wouldn’t:
eat them,” snapped Flop. And he!
gave another shove. Muff turned
suddenly and gave Foly a hard punch
in the eye.
