TAKES PAIN OUT
OF RHEUMATISM
Keep Sloan's handy for backache
strains and sprains, too
SLOAN’S Liniment has been sold
for 39 years. Today, it is more
popular than ever. There can be
but one answer—Sloan's produces re
sults.
Applied unthout rubbing, it penetrates
to the afflicted part, bringing relief
from rheumatic twinges, sciatica; sore,
stiff, strained muscles; backaches,
sprains, and other external pains, often
the result of exposure. It leaves no
raussiness, skin stain or clogged pores.

enterprise. She has been able to
compile some very interesting figures
on poultry which wi’.l appeal, as fol
lows :
Georgia is annually spending $40,-
000,000 for table eggs alone. Ap
proximately 75% of this goes outside
the state. Now 100 birds on every
farm with the addition of a few
commercial plants will keep this sig
nificant sum at home.
In several locations, such as the
outskirts of large cities like At
lanta, Savannah, Macon, Athens, Col
umbus and many other good places,
excellent opportunities for commer
cial egg farms are found, also good
commercial plants may be situated
along good shipping lines to these or
other points. Georgia has more fav
orable conditions for this develop
ment than have many other sections I
already developed.
Because of the impossibility of
covering the entire territory of the
state of Georgia, the State College is
■ limiting its special work to the fol
lowing counties this year: Madison,
i Elbert, Jefferson, Glynn, Colquit.
; Tift, Bibb, Fulton, Whitfield, Newton,
i Walton and Sumter.
I This special work seeks to form
j the following organizations, or serve
I the present ones:
I I.—Poultry club {children and
adults.)
2.—Poultry Association (where
enough adult interest is shown.)
i 3.—Egg marketing circles.
4. —Egg-laying competitions.
j W. F. Rue, extension specialist of
I the poultry department of the state
j college, will visit each of theseycoun
. ties once a month during this year.
He has recently visited some of the
| purebred flocks in Sumter county,
i and expressed a great deal of pleas
! ure in the high-grade birds he found
; here. He hopes during the year to
. list the name of every purebred poul-

THE BOOK OF MARTHA • t
One Who Gambled With Love. i i
yiiE new freedom for married wo- i
men never before had been voic- 1
ed by me. Never would I have hes- { *

old fashion, if my husband could not'
escort me to a play. I was positively ' 1
astonished to hear myself remniding j <
Martha of the new and different cus- j
tom of society. I i
“Frankly, I wish I could let you , 1
play Lady Fixit, my dear! It would i
be wonderful to share any pleasure i
with Arthur Mansfield. You see. i
Jane, he and I look at everything in ;
the same way.”
Then inbounced Ann. She likes i
to get down town alone, likes to look |
upon life as it moves swiftly in ,
streets, shops, hotels and offices. ;
Daddy Lorimer does not permit the |
Lorimer women to invade the pre- I
cincts of his chemical company. Ann !
doesn’t dare bat around there, but
she often visits Martha. So I wasn’t
surprised when she bounced iri and
interrupted with :
! “I’m going to the hospital! I’m
| going to see that old drunken wo
! man. Come on, Martha! Come
' along. Jane’!’
But Mortha had an appointment to j
: keep. I agreed to do.
But we’d better wait a day or I
j two to let her return to her right j
I mind, if she has one.”
“Can’t wait! I gave her my gold I
purse!”
I looked at Ann in great disgust, j
That bag was a marvel, and a Christ- |

"I used it to coax her out of the
fire. You ought to remember,” Ann j
reminded me. “Now I want to buy i
it back before she sells it to some- |
body else.”
Presently we found ourselves be
side a bed in a hospital ward. The
old woman was dreadful to look upon.
She was a Hallowe’en witch, I decided
| as Ann bargained for her bag. Morri
son, the detective, must have made a
mistake. He had told me that the j
derelict Ann had salvaged from the
jail was a woman who had been in
the workhouse more than any other
offender, and that she had once been

it a habit to buy the theatrical pa

Could any alluring beauty ever
have been built upon the pitiful skel

I had often, wondered what became
of pretty ladies such as had filed
from the burning piison. Madeline
Marche, there on tne hospital bunk,
was my answer.

The Biggest Figure Job
•
Calculating—figuring that is done simply to get
an answer—is the biggest figure-job in business.
There must be calculating before the figures are
ready for the bookkeeper to enter: footing,
checking, making extensions, figuring discounts,
getting percentages. This "scratch pad” figuring
takes a large part of the time of anyone who
has anything to do with business figures. It’s
costly, too, when done in the ordinary way.
The Burroughs Calculator adds, subtracts, multi
plies and divides, without printing the figures,
just by depression of the keys. It is, therefore,
very fast and, of course, accurate. It brings
speed and economy to the biggest figure-job in
business. It is light and compact and can bt?
easily carried from one place to another.
There is a place for the Burroughs Calculator in
every office that has figures to handle. The Bur
roughs representative will be glad to show you
how quickly and accurately it will handle your
miscellaneous figuring.
