The farmers of Bulloch county, at
a mass meeting held in Statesboro
Wednesday, voted to cut their cotton
acreage one-third.
Miss Stella Aiken, Savannah prac
ticing attorney, has been admitted to
practice in United States court by
Judge Beverly D. Evans. She is sain
to be the first woman in Georgia to
be admitted to practice in the Fed
eral courts.
Morningside Lodge, the winter
home of A. S. Dourne, of Long Is
land, N. Y., was' burned at Augusta
Friday with a loss of $20,000.

W. B. Holder, former vice-presi

a charge of embezzling $6,000 of the
bank’s funds. He was given an ova
tion by the court crowd.
Corporal Jesse Mumper, of Camp
Benning, fell from the tank upon
which he was returning from the fir
ing demonstration given Thursday
for General Wood and his legs were
crushed by the tank coming in the
rear. The right foot was amputated
at the camp hospital.
Mayor Carter and the city officers
of Richland are determined to break
up the sale of moonshine liquor in
Richland and the mayor has called
on all citizens for support. There is
a well organized gang of moonshin
ers in the city, says the Richland
News, and lately have been very ac
tive.
The Washburn-Weaver Shows,
which have been wintering in Rich
land, are preparing for the opening
week, Feb. 28, when they will show
in Richland.
The warehouse of the Doerun Oil
company, a large wooden structure,
was destroyed by fire Friday with a
loss of $20,000.
Mrs. Jessie Clarke, of Muscle
Shoals, Ala., has been named public
health nurse of Dougherty county to
succeed Mrs. L. M. McCathern, re
cently resigned.
Charged with criminal assualt upon
a 10-year-old white girl in Albany,
Ludie Riley, a white man, is held
in the county jail awaiting action of
the grand jury, which, convenes next
month.
Major General Leonard Wood, at
a meeting of the Columbus Kiwanis
club of which he was the honor guest
at the Ralston hotel Thursday night,
expressed the opinion that Camp Ben
ning was ideal for a division camp

of Vidalia have been consolidated
and permanent organization effected.
The directors elected W. T. McAr
thur president, and J. B. 'Brewerton,
cashier.
Courtney Thorpe, vice-president of
the Savannah Bank and Trust com
pany, was elected president of that
instituton Friday to succeed the late
W. F. McCauley.
The February term T>f the Crisp
county Superior court will convene
Monday, February 28, instead of one
week earlier as has- been the custom
in the past. This is due to the act
of the legislature changing the date
of the convening from the third Mon
day to the fourth in the respective
months for holding court in the coun
ty-

Several cases of small pox have
broken out in the Spaulding county
jail. The authorities are making ev
ery effort to stamp out the disease
before the March term of the City
court opens.as Judge Flynt will not
hold court unless conditions improve.
The schools at Bartow have been
suspended for two weeks on account
of small pox which has developed in
several families there. The school
children have all been vaccinated.
