work in the Master’s degree at a

Lodge No. 13, Thursday night. Am
ericus Lodge No. 13 has established
a rather enviable reputation for tiie
manner in which their degree team

result Masons flocked into Americus
Thursday evening from all nearby
towns and rural communities.

was at his best Thursday evening
as will be vouched for by all pres
ent.
A recess was given at 9 o’clock
and a delightful barbecue supper
was served in the rear of the hall..
If it were possible for such a thing
to happen, J. L. Glawson put an ex
tra touch to the last turn of this
deliciously browned meat. He pre
sided with his usual good nature add
ing a touch of homelike hospitality

Brunswick Next Year
MACON, May 20. Brunswick
gets the next annual conclave of the
Georgia Comntandery, Knights
Ttmplar, the invitation of that city
being accepted yesterday at the clos-'
ing business session of the grand
commandery. The dates are May 17
and 18. 1922.

elected grand commander of the
Georgia Knights Templar, succeed-1

mencement sermon for the Third Dis
trict Agricultural and Mechanical
school Sunday morning at 11 o’clock
in the Baptist church.
The students from the school will
attend in a body and will sit in a
specially reserved part of the audi
torium.

Mr. Fisher will deliver the com-
I mencement address this evening to
(the members of the graduating class
of thh Montezuma High school, many
of them having been closely associat
' ed with him in his ministry in Monte
zuma several, years ago. The grad
uating class is one of the largest in
the history of that institution, ar.d
the exercises have been elaborate 1
throughout the closing days of

in rounding up negroes who, it is
alleged, had threatened to shoot up

Rev. J. M. Atkinson, who died in j
that city Tuesday. Mr. Atkinson wasj
the father of Louie I). Atkinson, for-,
mer employe of the Times-Recorder|
and son-in-law of George M. Bragg,
of Americus. A lengthy editorial in
the Chronicle is devoted to euloging
tiie aged minister. In addition the
“Rev. James M. Atkinson died at
l.is home, 942 Reynolds street, yes
terday, in the sixety-ninth year of
his age. He had been ill for a long
time. The funeral wilt*lake place
this afternoon, at 4 o’clock, at the
Grove Baptist Church. The inter
ment will be in_ the Grovetown ceme
tery. His sons ’will act as pall-bear
ers. Rev. Thomas Walker will offi
ciate, assisted by Rev. Mr. Hutchin
son, pastor at Grove church.

he was eleven years of age. He be

! ty-six years ago lie became a minis-1
! ter, being ordained' at the Second j
Baptist Church, Augusta. liis first
| charge was at Langly, S. C. At the
I time of his death he,was a member
■ of. Mt. Tabor Baptist church at Saw
dust, up the Georgia railroad. He has 1
pastured a number of small churches.
His principal service was at Grove
town where he was pastor for thirty
five years.
“Mr. Atkinson is survived by seven
I in the state legislature, represent
! ing Columbia county. He was the old
j est Mason in Harlem, having estab-
I lished the lodge there. He establish
ed the Harlem Sentinel, in 1881, and
! ! was its editor and publisher for a
‘jlong term of years. Two years ago
I he established the Columbia News.

| he retired from activities for health
: reasons. He was a lovable man, a
splendid gentleman and spent his lifivl
| going around doing good and giving!
service in His cause.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by seven
j sons. His wife died about a year ago.
