they were placed under arrest. They
gave the names of Fred Stubbs and
J. M. Smith. The men were held
under SSOO bond each.
The price of gasoline has been
cut further in Savannah. It now re
tails for 20 cents a gallon. The oil
companies deny the reduction is the
result of a “price war,” but say the
cost of production has fallen off
enough to justify the reduction.
The municipal water, light, power
and gas plants at Dalton made $7,-
055.73 for the first six months of
this year, according to a report filed
by the commissioners with the city
clerk. The plants received $29,-
347.88 and spent $22,292.15.
Mrs. Mary Patterson, 55, of At
lanta, fell dead in an automobile on
the public square at Gainesville Fri
day afternoon. Mrs. Patterson was
a witness in court Fri/ay morning in
a case involving the parentage of
her nephew, Homer Grier. While in
court she fainetd, but recovered.
Chief of Police Overstreet, of Syl
vania, is dangerously wounded, and
Special Officer Taylor has a buckshot
wound in his back as the result of an

In the official consolidation of the
votes Thursday, it was shown that
Bennie L. Willis won Wednesday’s
election for tax collector of Grady
county to fill the vacancy caused by
the death of Roy W. Ponder. Mr.
Willis leceived 706 votes. W. L.
Wight, mayor of Cairo, received
534 votes. Os the total of fifteen
who were candidates, there were
ten candidates who did not carry a
precinct, nine receiving less than 100
votes and five received less than a
score of votes. Mrs. Foy Bryant, of
Pin Park, the first woman who has
ever offered as a candidate for of
fice in this county, one of the total
of fifteen, carried her home precinct
but received only 54 vo.es in the
whole county.
