I HOG SEASON 13
f IN FULL SWING
h
f Many Sales Will Be Held In
South Georgia This
Month
3 MOULTRIE, Sept. 27—The South
Georgia “Hog Season” opened tin.,
week. Receipts at the big stock
yards here are expected to be heavier
between today and Saturday night
than they have been during any
.month through the summer season.
In many sections of the state hog
(Sales are announced for this week.
iSwift and company have been asked
to submit bids at a number of points.
Recently the opening of the fresh
ejpork season has resulted in -many
new bidders attending the hog sale.-.
'The butchers in big Southern citie
‘ are buying in car lots. Recently
’ representatives of there butcher;
JTiave been among the most active
bidders at the co-operative ale.-.
I A survey of the Georgia, Florida
and Alabama hog territory mad" by
.live stock buyers here reveals that
there will be a large increase in the
number of hogs in Georgia and ,
Florida over last season but a fall- |
ing off in Alabama. There is also
found to be a ’ short crop of feed
which probably will mean that the
hogs will be moved to market sooner ■
in th® season than usual. Hog: sold i
yyiil be lighter than last season wh n
they were notably heavy. There
1 'also is the probability that! there
will be more than the usual number
of pigs placed on the market and the
. state college, county agents and live J
~ stock clubs already have started a
movement to discourage the sale of 1
pigs by pointing to the financial fol
ly of such action. They will make
an attempt to find feeds in each
county to take the surplus pigs and j
finish them, keeping what is consid
ered to be the easiest money* in the i
hog business in the South.
