day at Methodist Church
DUBLIN, May 28.—Sunday mom- [
ing the first official portion of
commencement for the Dublin j
High school was held when Dr. J. G. I
Patton delivered the commencement
sermon to the graduating class. This
Thi service was held in he First
Methodist church, and practically all
the churches of the city joined in
this service, calling off their morn
ing preaching services because of
the program.
Friday night, June Ist,'the grad
uation exercises will be heldj These
■will be in the High school auditor
ium and will be the official closing
of the school term. V s
At this time the annuar literary
address •will be delivered by H on. N.
H. Ballard , state school superin
tendent-elect. The program will be
gin at 8:30 o’clock and besides the
address of Mr. Ballard diplomas will
be given the graduating class.
There is a large graduating class
this year, one of the largest graudat
ed by the school. First honor was
taken by Miss Marie New, daughter
of Dr. J. E. New of Dexter, who has
been attending school here. Miss Ka
therine Orr came second, and Mr.
Robert Stubbs third. Mr. Stubbs is
also president of the class.
KEEP COWS UP NIGHT;
LET ’EM RUN IN DAY
NASHVILLE, Ga., May 28.—At
a meeting of the last meeting of the
city council of Nashville, the council
men amended their former ordinance
to keep cows off the Streets in that
city after June Ist. An ordinance of
that kind was passed about a month
ago, but the councilmen made a
change so that the cows will be al
lowed to roam the streets at will dur
ing the day. At night, when the
people are asleep and the premises
are unprotected, cows must be
penned up. That is not such a bad
law, as it a step forward getting
rid of roaming cows entirely.
TWO WEfeKS YET BEFORE
MELON SHIPMENTS START
VALDOSTA, May 28.—Railroad
men are of the opinion that it will be
approximately two weeks before the
first melon or cantaloupe shipments
will be made out of Valdosta terri
tory. Last year the first shipment
was made the last week in May, but
the crop is late this season and the
next two weeks will be considered
earlv for 1923. In the meantime the
railroads are already collecting their
ventilated refrigerator cars for the
cantaloupe shipments.
