Experiments in Alabama and
Georgia Said to Demonstrat
ed Effectiveness of Hills
DOTHAN, Ala., May 31.—1 n or
der to test • the effectiveness of
Hilb’s Mixture as a boll weevil poi
son, extensive experiments were
made in Dothan and vicinity last
week. These experiments, (which
were conducted by thoroughly
reliable. and reputable parties)
prove conclusively that Kill s Mix
ture does kill the boll weevil, as
in srtrtii?’instances not a handful of
weevils could be gathered from a
field Xvhdfb they had been in abun
dance before the mixture was ap
plied.
Officials'from the Hill’s Mixture
Corporation in Augusta arrived in
Dothan last Monday, and on Tues
day conducted a test on the farm
of F. J. Weathers, eight miles
south of town. About one and one
half a&res of cotton, down near
the woods, convenient to the win
ter supply, of weevils was poison
ed-Monday afternoon, using about
a siallon of the Hill’s Mixture.
Tuesday morning a party went
bask to see what the results were.
Only one live weevil was found on
this, section. A handful of weevils
wvS't 1 caught Monday
and placed under a screen which
we|jt over the cotton. They were
draped under this screen, and on
thdtileaves :of the cotton some of
thetpoisoHAak placed. All these
weetils were dead on Tuesday
witit but one excevtion, and he
looted mighty sick.
jjjr. Thos. Barrett, Jr., Vice
president of the Hill’s Mixture
Corporation, advises that similar
tess hAtfe just .been completed on
thiJfarms of Messrs. Raines and
Hofengsworth in Terrell County,
Georgia. The Hill’s Mixture was
thoroughly applied to fifteen acres
of the most densely populated with
fher,jnsects. Tuesday morning the
same acres were inspected by a
