Board of Health Advises Coating
Interior of Farm Houses With
Mixture to Kill Mosquitoes
A new and plentiful supply ot
creosote has just been secured by
the Board of Health, Dr. J. W.
Chambliss announced today, which
■wil] be distributed among owners
of tenement property here at cost.
The material, he says, should be
used to eliminate the mosquito in
houses where screening is imprac
ticable, and its efficacy has been
amply demonstrated where the four
interior walls are coated with the
mixture. Spraying or coating
doors and windows, Dr. Chambliss
says has been found impracticable,
and is no longer advised by the
health authorities.
In advising the use of creosote,
Dr. Chambliss states this mixture
should be used only where it is im
practicably to screen or for any
reason standing water where mos
quitoes breed cannot be removed.
In all acses where w«ttor can be
drained, it is advised that this be
done, and screening is advised un
der all conditions, even where stag
nant water does not exist, but this
is not insisted upon.
Legion Post
Backs Fair
(Continued from Page 1.)
the fair would make the stay of
met with hearty approval, it being
generally agreed that attractions
to be provided in connection with
the fair wuodl make the stay of
the Legionnaires here most pleas
ant.
At this conference, Commander
Crawford said, the matter of re
organizing the Legion organization
in the district will be discussed,
and an effort launched to impart
more ‘pep’ to a number of posts
that have not been functioning
properly during several months
past. At this meeting representa
tives will be present from fourteen
counties, and a Legion census of
the district will be made, with the
name and address of every ex-serv
ice man now residing in the dis
trict placed before the Legion au
thorities.
There are many ex-service men
in this district, it was said, who be
cause of their remote residence
communities and the difficulty of
visiting cities where posts are es
tablished, have not yet received all
of the benefits which are theirs
for the asking as a result of their
army service. Some of those men
who served their country during its
hour of peril are now or may be
in actual need, and it is the pur
pose of the conference to be call
ed here to seek out' and list all
of these men are properly cared
for and given the benefit through
the efforts of the Legion.
‘■We expect at least two thou
sand Legionnaires and ex-service
men to attend this . confidence,”
said Commander Crawford today,
“and we want to make their stay
in Americus both pleasant and
profitable. For this reason I am
inclined to call the conference for
one day during the fair in Ameri
cus, and I am going to get busy
right away and see if a proper pro
gram for that day can be arranged,
with plenty of entertainment for
the veterans embraced in its de
tails, then the conference will be
held here on one day between Sep
tember 25 and 28, so that the Le
gionnaires may be here to enjoy
the occasion.”
