Conference Will Be Held at
New Orleans on Forestry
And Reclamation
ATLANTA, Nov. 7.—Develop
ment of idle lands in the South
will be the object of a conference
on forestry and reclamation which
is scheduled to be held in New Or
leans about the middle of the pres
ent month.
The purpose of this conference,
as st. ied in detail, will be to de
vise ways and means for suitable
uti.feation of the lands of the Unit
ed States and especially in the
South; to eliminate speculation and
exploitation from land settlement;!
to eguard settlers seeking homes
lands idle at? present; to in
» lease the number of self-support
|mg farm homes; to secure-effective
cooperation; i(n constructive devel
opment of the country’s idle lands!
and to secure expansion of the
Federal reclamation policy into na
tional scope instead of sectional r.-s

land which have been abandoned
to grass, weeds and second-growth
timber which lands were formerly
cultivated fields. It is essential to
the progress acid prosperity of the
South, forestry men and agricul
turists both claim, that these lands
be utilized in some suitable man
ner as producers of revenue or
home-making.
The problems which will face the
New Orleans conference, it is stat
ed, will be varied and widespread.
Some portions of the South's idle
lands can best be utilizing for re
forestation. Others are best
adapted for grazing and livestock
production. Others are best suit
ed for agriculture proper—for cot
ton, corn, wheat, truck and* other
products. Some of these lands, it
is shown, should be planted in fruit
trees and others in citrus or pecan
groves.

meeting of the Carroll county farm
bureau will be held with county
agent C. B. Ingram, at which or
ders for acid phosphate will be
turned in. Orders which have been
turned in took advantage of re
