There are actors who are prone
to take the best of every scene un
to themselves. One who has a
naughty reputation in this respect
has left the comedienne now play
ing opposite him so shorn of oppor
tunities to -amuse the audience that
one night she was overheard mut
tering bitterly:
“It’s lucky he’s (not a ventrilo
quist. He’d never give the dummy
the answers."—New York Herald.

“WHY GIRLS LEAVE HOME’
AT RYLANDER MONDAY.
“Just because a girl prefers silk
to cotton, you call her wayward”
indignantly declares Anna Redder
to her stern father in a power
ful dramatic scene in “Why Girls
Leave Home,” the stirring heart
interest picture at the Rylander
theatre today. In that sentence is
revealed one reason why many
daughters have left their family
roofs and struck out for them
selves. •
,This unusual photodrama reveals
with the cleverness of a searchlight
not only the reasons why girls leave
home, but it also points in a direct
manner to a solution of the problem
which many girls and their parents
are called upon to face at some time
or another.
As to the story itself it is simple
and powerful. It deals with two
girls who typify and represent all
daughter?-who have grown to wom
anhood. . ,The unfairness and nar
row-minded actions of one parent
drive one girl forth into the world.
The over.ninclulgenpe epd. careless
neglect of another parent is the
cause of the second girl’s leaving
home. - ■>, ;..,f
The paths of the two girls cross
and it is a junction that has a far
reaching effect which is worked out
in a sequence of scein.es that does
not let the interest lag for a min- i
ute. “Why Girls Leave Home” is
declared above all to be one of the j
cleanest and most thoroughly satis-1
fying entertainments the silver
sheet has offered in some time.
LASSES WHITE TO GIVE
STREET PARADE AND
BAND CONCERT.
A special feature is be : ng made
of the street parade which is given
by Lasses White’s minstrels this
season. It will occur at 3 o’clock
on Tuesday and will be lead by the
only Lasses and participated in by
the entire company. The band will
be under the leadership of Prof.
Ernest Hatley who is reputed to be
the foremost minstrel band leader.
There will also be a band concert
at 7:30 Tuesday night in front of
the Rylander theatre, on which oc
casion a rare musical treat will be
given.
A welcome feature of Lasses
White’s m’nstrels is its vocal con
tingent which is of a high ordei
unusual in minstrelsy. As in past
season this organization has the
benefit of the services of “Nate”
Talbot whose knowledge as har
mony arranger makes it certain that
all numbers in which music figures
will be presented in most acceptable
manner.
As in the past the Blackville
quartet of which Mr. Talbot is a
member continues to be one of the
hits of the bill. Associated with
Talbot are Kerman Schultz, Nor
man Brown and “Jimmie” McDon
ald. Other important singers are
Grover Schepp, Frank Long, Bob
Manpin, Rfaxwell Gordon, Sam
Deatherage, Sam Puckett and the
Tetrazini of Minstrels —George Wil
