Woman Believed To Have Fig
ured in Death of Man Lived
In Florida
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 8.- —Coun- I
ty Sheriff Karel this morning made;
public a statement given him by a j
prisoner named Jones in the coun- i
ty jail here for theft, which al- i
leged wife Was connected ;
with the murder of Haytt D. Oris- I
son, Greensboro, N. C., druggist,
several months ago at a creek
north of Jacksonville.
About a year ago , the sheriff |
said, the druggist left Jacksonville |
by automobile en route to his North j
Carolina home, and then mysteri
ously disappeared. Hearing noth- !
ing from her husband, Mrs. Gris ;
som started an investigation which
resulted in the fining of her hus- |
Lard’s body nea- a creek north
■>f Jacksonville, .vita the lamaged
car close by.
According to friends who knew
Mr. Grissom, who was returning
north from St. Petersburg;, he was
considered as a reckless driver, and
it was at first thought he had
crashed into a bridge over the
creek and met his .loath, investi
gation instituted by the police,
however, led to the-adoption of the
theory of murder, and a woman by
the nam,e of Jones, was suspected,
but eventually dropped, as having
L&, sonle knowledge of the crime.
Sheriff Karel said the case had
laded from his memory until two
weeks ago when his suspicions were
attracted his attention from a prac
tical criminal standpoint, but soon
aroused by the appearance of a
couple in the local polic ■ court.
His suspicions wer • strengthen
ed, he sai l, by the man accusing
his wife as having stolen i car from
him, and other statements which
c.-uld not be substantiated by ref
erences that Karel nought for over
the wires from Columbus, Ohio.
An examination of the car gave
him a due, the officer said, and
when later the stolen car was
found in a garage at Lake Alfred
with a bill against the owners, a
Mr. and Mrs. Jones, he felt sure
that the sooner they were run down
the better.
It was an easy matter, the sher
itf said, to get in touch with the'
couple, as the woman had sustained I
a fracture to one of her ribs in an
accident..
The woman will be held pending!
