accidentally killed here Thursday

ily residence on La Fayette street
in Brooklyn Heights this afternoon
\at 3 o’clock, the obscqucies being
conducted by Dr. Carl W. Minor,
pastor of the First Baptist church
Interment was in Oak Grove ceme
tery.

The services were largely attend
ed and the floral tributes were many
and beautiful, attesting to the high

MISS BALDWIN TO BE
AT STUDENTS MEETING
Miss Myrtle Baldwin, of Ameri
cus, is now in Indianapolis, Ind.,
where she went as a delegate to the
International Students’ 'convention
which convenes in that city. She
represents the State Normal school,
at Athens, where she is now a stu
dent. Miss Baldwin is one of a
party of more than one hundred
students, representing the several
large Georgia schools who left At
lanta for Indianapolis to attend the
[ ninth international convention of
■ the Student Volunteer movement,
tvvhich holds forth in that city from
December 28 to January 1. The
| trip is being made in a special train,
Lvia the Southern railroad,. The par
ity is in charge of E. L. Secrest, of

ATLANTA, Dec. 28.—Fatally in
jured in an automobile crash cm the
Atlanta Newnan highway early
Wednesday night, Lonnie Cook, of
Red Oak, died at 12:30 o’clock
Thursdaj 7 morning of a crushed
skull at Grady hospital, while Mrs.
P. B. Betsail, of Jonesboro, a pas
senger in Cook's machine, was in a
precarious condtiion from severe
cuts and bruises about the head and
body.

ATLANTA, Dec. 28. —Controll-
ing the purity of foods, drugs and
stockfeeds through the eniorcement
of the Federal Food and Drug Act
as the greatest service the Bureau
of Chemistry of the United States
Department of Agriculture can
render the consuming public, ac
cording to Dr. C. A. Brone, who
was recently placed in charge of
the work of that bureau by the
Secretary of Agriculture, while its
greatest service to the farmer lies
in the development of chemical tech
nology in its application to the basic
industry of agriculture. I
“The first steps of the industrial
development of this country were
in rural technology,” said Dr.
Browne. “The earliest technical
chemists were the agricultural pio
neer.

cost of living was one-fifth less in
September this year than it was in
June, 1920, when the highest point
in living costs since 1913 was
reached. A decrease of 20.5 per
cent in the total cost of living in
United States, as determined by a
consolidation of the figures for 32
specific cities, is shown in an an
nouncement issued today the bu
reau of labor statistics.
